How was Daisy and Amused born?

Daisy and Amused is a true "pandemic baby."

After my husband and I had our third kid, I said to him, "whenever we start to think we need another baby in our lives, that's when I'll start a jewelry business."

Okay, the conversation didn't quite go like that. But I did say, we should get a puppy and he agreed. So early on in the pandemic, June to be exact, we brought home an adorable Golden Retriever that we named Daisy. So yes, just to add the math: pandemic + us + 3 kids + new puppy = insanity.

Did I mention that I am also a teacher? Yes, that too. So in addition to the crazy math I have going up above, I was also teaching my students from home, while also keeping my own children engaged in their preschool and first-grade Zoom meets. It got real REAL fast. The stress was overwhelming. I was running on empty. I need a creative space to fill my cup.

...When I was a child my best friend and I LOVED beading. Our mothers would take us to Joann Fabrics where we would spend our allowance money on fishing string and seed beads. We would make colorful creations and play "store" with our jewelry. It was fun. Then I have to say, I put away my beads for about 20 years. It wasn't until my two girls became interested in crafting that I took them out again. And it wasn't until my Secret Santa gifted me beading supplies for Christmas that I explored beading as an adult, and I discovered a passion that is both old and new. And now this passion is filling my cup, one bead at a time....

From there, in the middle of a pandemic, Daisy and Amused was born. It filled my creative void that pandemic life created and reignited a childhood passion. Now I aim to add color, joy, and happiness into the lives of women like myself--trying to find balance, joy, and color in a tough time. Isn't that the point of jewelry? To add that bit of sparkle on a rainy day. To empower. To inspire. To promote joy.
