Full description of the Kinbaku Bi Tatami Bed & its benefits
Kinbaku Bi Bed a very Japanese inspired bed that is subtly designed for Shibari so that your grandmother wouldn't guess unless she was a Geisha or kink runs in your family! It has 19 different tethering points consisting of 12 pairs of holes strategically placed at the strongest points around the edge of the bed. Ideal for rope, leather or fabric to be looped through them to bind a willing sub to their hearts content. There is also the head board posts & a convenient knot hole that can be creatively used as well. In fact the knot hole is a perfect leash tethering point!
This a very Japanese inspired bed that is as sustainable, healthy and ethical as can be made. The timber has had as minimal machining as possible to retain some of its history, show its character and minimise its embodied energy. Designed also to be able to be flat packed in individual timber components for transport. The mechanical fixings used are stainless steel and zinc plated phillips head and square drive screws and a number of small galvanised metal brackets. It can be assembled and disassembled with a cordless drill with a magnetic bit holder. Spare screws, magnetic bits, pigment solution, oil and finishing wax included.
The head board is a solid teak slab! This on its own is worth up to $2000. It is an amazing piece of wood that is almost impossible to get, let alone find of this size and quality of grain and figure. With this and the cost of the traditionally made tatami mats and the locally (Melbourne) sourced recycled timber the bed is very good value. The rest of the bed is solid timber. Mostly Victorian Ash with some blackwood details and red gum legs. As a hand made one of a kind item that is environmentally sustainable on all levels, it's value is way beyond the quality of its material components.
The bed is amazingly comfortable. It is ideally suited to for a traditional Japanese style futon (thinner than a western one) as the tatatmi have a little natural give in them. The base has been designed to be perfect for a western futon or a mattress as the head board can be adjusted up for these. These tatami are non traditional sized and specifically made for the Australian company that supplied these and fits a queen or a king sized mattress. They can be replaced easily if ever needed. The design of the bed means that the mats will be easy to keep clean and able to last longer.
The whole bed is finished with plant based products so there are no toxic volatile organic compounds to off gas into your bedroom like almost all other furniture does. The use of man-made board products plus petro-chemical paints, solvents, oils, waxes, laminates, glues and putty's are one of the main sources of toxins in our homes. These all give off VOC's continuously, with air conditioning trapping these circulating these inside with us. This is something most people don't realize and is constantly affecting them in their sleep and their daily lives. We are conditioned to accept and constantly live with this yet it is not necessary and has a large part to do with the rise in chronic illnesses like cancer. Our bedrooms especially should be VOC free as this is where we spend 1/3 of our lives.
If you have any questions about the bed and its benefits please ask. It will be an investment in a one of a kind hand made bed of the high quality materials and finishes. The bed has been built with ethics and consciousness for the planet we call home and all that we share it with. An investment that could be individually rewarding in terms of your personal health and well being plus an asset to cherish for you and the people closest to you.
Delivery & considerations
Delivery to Melbourne (Australia) and surrounding areas of Victoria will be $1000 extra on top of the sale of the bed. This is to cover the personal delivery service as It will be delivered by myself or a fellow environmentally sustainable designer with furniture knowledge. It will be delivered in individual parts and assembled on site. approximately 2 hours will be needed for the assembly process. Pick up is possible from Thornbury. Knowledge of furniture assembly will assist this process. A cordless driver / drill with a magnetic bit holder is required for assembly and dis-assembly. If this option is wanted a detailed set of instructions and images will be provided & will come with the bed when delivered as well.
Delivery outside of this stated area will be quoted at the time of purchase and will need to be added to the payment before shipping. Delivery overseas or outside of Victoria Australia will be quoted at the current standard rates. Delivery overseas could cost as much as the bed itself. I now live in far North Queensland but the bed is in Melbourne where it was made and been in storage since then. Due to my work taking me to some remote areas I can be out of range at times. I will endeavour to check for and respond to all messages as soon as possible. When sold I will organises transport as soon as I can after the full purchase and delivery payment has received and cleared into my bank / PayPal account. I come to Victoria at least twice a year so am likely to be able to organise myself to deliver, assemble & install the bed in person. Otherwise I will have a designer & or furniture making colleague or friend local to your area (Sydney or Melbourne) deliver & assemble it.
Any questions please message me. The bed is aimed to be sold to someone in Melbourne, Australia but if you are willing to pay for freight this bed to be shipped globally it is flat packable so easily done. It is more suited to a dry climate due to the timbers used & it being manufactured in such a climate than say tropical or maybe subtropical humid situation.
