I believe in bringing people to life with hats, and hats to life with people. My mission is to sculpt materials into dream headwear and re-imagine old sad abandoned hats into new creations. I am here to make you realise that, actually, you ARE a hat person.

I make handmade hats using traditional and innovative millinery techniques, and repair genuine vintage hats. My main passion at the moment is making vintage-style hats, but I also make custom bridal headwear, hats for a day at the races, modern casual hats and all kinds of historical and fantasy costume hats. I love playing with colour, shape, texture, and quirky ideas.

Inspired and encouraged by my mother in particular, I have always been a creative person. I spent much of my childhood sketching, painting and making. I loved fancy dress parties, and once my mother and sister got sick of pandering to my wild ideas, I started sewing for myself, and soon included hats in my costumes. I was instantly drawn to the way hats were more sculptural and free form than clothing, and once my sister gave me a book on hat-making, the path was set!

Soon I was making hats for myself and as gifts for friends and family, and enjoying attempting to recreate the gorgeous images I was seeing in old photos, illustrations and movies. As I continued to learn and explore, I wanted to spend more time on my millinery, and create a career that goes hand-in-hand with motherhood, and hence Tanith Rowan Designs was born.
