Recommended Blogs: Project Felt

This week’s recommended blog is Projectfelt.blogspot.com, by Etsy seller — you guessed it! — projectfelt. (Also known as funkybytara.)

Project Felt does a weekly Etsy Find (similar to those in The Storque), writes about felt creations and her involvement with varied ecological causes. She is also the leader of the Eco Etsy Team. Check out her blog today for cute Etsy finds, felt stuff and her unique viewpoint.

We recently interviewed ProjectFelt to find out what she’s been up to.

What motivated you to start your blog?
I never really understood the importance of a blog until I read the book Craft Inc. by Meg Mateo Ilasco. She talks about how to turn your craft into a business and the importance of marketing yourself and your craft. This is when I decided that I needed to start a blog and get serious about it. I started to notice blogs all over the web once I was in tune to them. My favorite along with many others is the design*sponge blog. What an inspirational blog, and a great example of what great blogging is all about. So I set a goal, to one day have a following of readers who visit my blog every day and enjoy reading what I have to say.

What do you like to write about?
I have three main topics of discussion on my blog: design, eco, and all things handmade. Each week I feature an Etsy seller [and] I write a small snippet about the artist and their craft. I choose images from their shop to post along with the article and their shop URL.

I’m a firm believer in free advertising and supporting other Etsy sellers and their craft. I love to showcase unusual, fun and different designs that I find here on Etsy. I am the leader of the Eco Etsy Street Team, so I blog about eco products and various facts about the envirnment and what we can do the help in the preservation of our planet. I enjoy scouring the net for eco-friendly household items and design elements and blogging about my finds to let the world know that Eco is fun and faboulous too!

Any tips to others hoping to start a blog?
If you don’t have a blog already, get one! It’s free and a wonderful way to promote yourself and your art. Some tips I have learned along the way:

1. Keep your blog to no more than three main topics.

2. You want to have a focus or a theme to your blog. This keeps things less cluttered, and people will recognize you based on your topics.

3. Blog often. This is a big one. I try to blog at least four times a week, if not every day. When you want to create a following of people who visit your blog every day, you want them to see fresh new posts when they visit. Otherwise readers get uninterested and you lose their interest.

What’s your favorite food and why?

McDonald’s cheeseburgers. DUH!

ProjectFelt has great taste, so check out her blog (and shop!) today!
