I think this is a fantastic idea! One good reason to update your profile: It makes it easier for reporters to find you. My blog (www.newsday.com/cheapthrills) features crafters and artists from NYC and Long Island, so this feature will help me zero in on Etsy shops in those areas. If you're a shop owner and you'd like to get press, it's a good idea to update your shop location from something made up like Planet Zernon to something real and specific like NYC or Brooklyn. I will definitely use this Shop Local feature. Thanks for making my job easier!

Am very glad to see this tool -- Thank you! 2 wishlist items: 1. search within results: "scarf" within "Detroit" 2. search within 50 mi radius of my location -or- search multiple city names: "scarf" within "Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia"

I also really like the tool, It would be great if it allowed for a zip code and different mile radius searches. I find this to be a great new tool, now I just need to spread the word about etsy in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, I think people are just starting to catch on!

This is a great idea. I have always had my local identity details in my profile. When I look up Nelson New Zealand my shop is not there. Is it not up and running properly yet.

I agree with hoverfly - I would like to be able to search for certain products within a certain area :)

this would be great if I could actually go to the stores easily ie be able to click and go to that store but for some reason I can't... is it just me or is it something wrong in the set up?!

Thank you for this, it would be great if it had city, state and zip codes. A lot say just the city and it would be nice to see the state also.

Shop local is a great idea. I was excited to find my works as well as other artists from Walnut Creek,CA. Some nice works from an artist in my area caught my eye. A Shard angel necklace made by Flower 7 in etsy.. She made it with recycled glass pieces retrieved from the dustbin of a glassblowing studio accented with fresh water pearls. Very nice.

This does have limited usefulness as I cannot specify the type of item I'm looking for locally. Even categories such as jewelry would help a lot.

There really should be some way to shop local but still browse categories, such as eBay's "Filter by location" features. I live in Australia, and the expense and environmental cost of flying things from overseas is horrible. But this means I cannot use categories at all.

I add my vote for being able to search by both category and location. Useful for when there are hundreds or thousands of stores in the area and/or you're looking for a specific thing and trying to get it as close to home as possible.

The shop local feature is a great idea. It should include all the shops by category and location.

Yes - please, please, please add the ability to filter search results by location ("ships from" location would make the most sense I guess). I live in Australia and would love to support local etsians when I can and also limit the environmental and financial impacts of any shipping. Thanks!

I love being able to shop local - I know I'm repeating others, but it'd be great if I could "search" within my city. Or if I could select different categories (jewelry, ceramics, vintage, etc.) within my location.

This is a great feature but my area brought up pages and pages of shops. Is it possible to create a search for specific items within the local area?

our shops name is j&l"s my husband and i are beginners and started showing our handmade crafts at craft shows. we enjoy passing our time and decorating and seeing our finished project.

I wasn't aware of this feature in Etsy. This is a great way for local buyers to know us the sellers and I think this will be a great way to maybe form a local artist fair.

Great idea ... thanks for such good information for me, the newcomer. I also agree with 888gifts regarding a local artist fair. The more interest we generate the better for all of us! We need to get more people aware of ETSY and how it works.

I love to shop local!!! Although, there is local listing for my town. It would be if ETSY would have a distance locator for the Shop Local.

Is anyone at Etsy working on being able to combine search with shop local? I don't want to have to pore through every store in SF to find one that sells soap. This is kind of useless otherwise, except for just browsing.

I agree, shopping local would be much easier if I could combine the local search with keyword search. I'll buy from far away before I'll go through every store in DC/VA looking for a wooden spoon.

Thanks for the great update..Fairly new to etsy and LOVING it..It's great to have local shopping...I'm finding that when customers want to house a small craft fair I have a place to draw the crafters from..Great for the customers and great for the sellers too.

In theory Shop Local is good but it’s a long way off from being great ! We all need as much help as possible in order to get seen, so only showing the latest 100 who have added items is poor in my book. It’s not fair to only include shops in this way because selling is what this is all about not just adding and paying for new listings in order to get your item/shop shown for a short period. I accept the technical reason why at this stage only 100 shops at any given time are shown but I don’t like the fact we have to keep adding in order to be one of the 100. I want my shop to pop up alphabetically/item related within my ‘Shop Local’ pages no matter if I’ve added something new recently or not. It’s hard enough trying to sell never mind having to pay 20 cents per new item to avoid exclusion, after all if you don’t get many sales you can’t keep buying material to make new things. Come on Etsy this is a policy which should be re-thought.

this is great! but why can't i search for a certain item AND shop locally? this would help narrow down results for buyers, thereby making searching much less overwhelming. i know it's fabulously successful for etsy that there are so many seller uploads (congratulations!), but the number of options can be daunting and time consuming for buyers. regardless, thanks for this awesome site!!!

I agree with hoverfly, ashboy, and many others: We want to be able to search for a specific item AND search locally, and it'd be nice to have the feature Craigslist has, which is to let you filter by location within a certain number of miles of a place.

I do not understand how this works...I have an Etsy Shop in Israel and could not find it on Shop local... I appreciate if you could help me. It is important to me to promote sells in my local place. In Israel just 100 etsy shops?? They must be some problem. Thanks, Silvina Glass Art
