Seller How-to: PayPal Coming to Etsy Virtual Labs!

UPDATE:  Please download the PDF file so you can follow along with this audio podcast of Deb Popek‘s Paypal Virtual Lab. It’s a very thorough resource for sellers who use Paypal. Thanks for listening and thanks to Deb for doing this! Below, we’ve typed up some highlights from the talk as well as some other tips Deb shared with us while visiting the Etsy Labs.

Web Accept Express (WAX Payment): Paying with a credit card without a PayPal account
Sellers have the option to offer the WAX payment through their PayPal account settings. There are spending limitations for buyers who use WAX. The spending limit follows the specific credit card they selected to use for a period of four months. At the end of the four month period, the limit will be reset to the standard pre-verified (by PayPal) spending limit. The buyer may use a different card, which will have it’s own four month period and spending criteria.

I am unable to attend but do have a question. Background: I was recently approached by a magazine editor to include my jewelry in an upcoming publication. The editor requested I send several pieces to him to be professionally photographed, which I have done. Question: I attempted to create a mailing label via PayPal. However, since the editor didn't actually purchase anything, I could not figure out how to create a mailing label. If I can do this, I need to be shown how. If I cannot, consider this a feature request. Mark.

I can't attend, since i'm at work during the day, but perhaps you can talk about sales tax? How do you set up in PP to automatically charge sales tax if the buyer is from within your state--is that even possible? if not, can you go back after someone has made a purchase and tac on sales tax?

i'd like to know why the 18 cent delivery confirmation is mandatory for first class mail. it says that it only works on large packages or envelopes of a certain size and lots of times my envelopes do not meet the criteria (I think it has to be 3/4 inch thick) yet I still have to pay the 18 cents.

    RockCity says:

Is Paypal planning to inflict the same policies on Etsy sellers as they do on ebay? On ebay, if a buyer files a paypal claim of "significantly not as described" then paypal refunds their money out of your account, no questions asked, and the buyer is free to return an empty box to you, or a box with a rock in it, and keep both the item and the refund. This is a big problem on ebay. People, paypal is not your friend. Beware!

I recently opened a second shop and dicovered I could not use my CC to make a purchase because it was "on file" in my original shop. Is it (or will it ever be possible) to use one CC for TWO separate shops?

I too would like to come, but will be taking kids to pre-school. Hope there is a transcript available afterwards. I would like to know why when paying from a paypal account you can't choose an alterntive pay source when you balance is in adequate, so you end up using up your paypal balance and the balance is paid using an alterntive funding source. Why can we just choose 1 funding source to pay with?

Forget paypal, when will google checkout work with Etsy. Google is not nearly so greedy as FeeBay and Paypal. You get advertising AND lower fees with Google if you use Adwords also. Please Etsy people, get working with google and let us integrate with google checkout. It'd be ALOT more pennies in the sellers pockets instead of PayPal/FeeBay.
