Sow the seeds of love at your wedding! I’m happy to present this week’s How-Tuesday project: Project Wedding‘s Seedling Kit Favors.
They say that necessity is the mother of invention, and Project Wedding proves the rule. As founders Joe and Margaret planned their own wedding and met with vendors, they often found that reality didn’t match up with advertisements and websites. They needed help — the real scoop on vendors from the brides who knew first-hand. Thus, in 2007 Project Wedding was born, a resource for money-saving advice and do-it-yourself projects, real weddings and photos for inspiration to fit any budget, and of course the vendor reviews that started it all.
This article on a seedling favor has been popular with Project Wedding readers because it touches on several areas that have become important to brides around the country. It’s imaginative. It’s green. It’s also do-it-yourself and priced so that it doesn’t needlessly weigh on your budget.

Seedling Kit Favors
Step One: Fill a miniature paper bag (8) with a soil pellet (5) and a sprinkling of seeds (7). Embellish as desired — here we used antique seam binding (4), a miniature tag (9) and embroidery floss (10). Simpler alternative: seal bag with a sticker or label.
Step Two: Print a monogram, logo or thank-you message on a sheet of heavy card stock (11). The card stock should be long enough to wrap around the kraft paper box (1). Create a matchbox-style lid by folding the cardstock around the box. Use a bone folder to make creases sharp and professional, and glue ends together using a glue stick. Simpler alternative: use a box with attached lid and apply a decorative label or stamp.
Step Three: Line box with sheet moss (2) and place miniature terracotta pot (6) and seed/soil packet inside. Print care and planting instructions on a sheet of vellum (3) and trim so it fits snugly within the box; replace lid.

Notes on Supplies (you can find some of these on Etsy):
1. Kraft box
2. Moss
3. Vellum
4. Antique seam binding, found at a flea market
5. Soil pellets, seasonally found at Target, but search online retailers for larger quantities
6. 1″ Diameter Terracotta Pot
7. Forget-Me-Not seeds
8. Paper sacks
9. Miniature tags
10. Embroidery floss
11. Cover weight card stock

At first I thought this was a how to for seed embedded paper. This is so much simpler and probably more likely to give good results. Very nice.

What a cute idea! Wish I had thought of it for my wedding. I grew small ivy plants in little terra cotta pots. We used them on the tables and then they went home with our guests. It was a lot more work starting the plants and keeping them all alive - but it helped on floral costs!

I did this for my wedding - we bought $.10 seed packets and put them in clear plastic bags and cut out the instructions. Then we put them all, along with a little color coordinating note from us, in a cute little box with a thick black ribbon around it and a "thank you" sticker on top. They literally cost around $.30 each at the end of the day - my kind of favor!

This is a gorgeously cute idea, and also green, however may I comment that here forget me nots are a much hated plant, be selective of your plants, what may be loved in some areas may be considered a weed in others.

this is so cute! Especially for a garden wedding. I made little chocolate bars for m guests at my wedding. I got a big slab of chocolate, broke it in to smaller rectangles, wrapped in foil and printed on my pretty paper their name and a thankyou note. It worked as a name card/favour/thankyou/snack. :) It just shows you with a little thought can go a long way. And these seedling idea is very thoughtful, your guests will definately remember :)

This is very similar to what I am doing for my wedding in October this year... instead of a box i have hand made brown kraft paper bags and hand stamped these with a personalised stamp, then added a tag with black rafia... suits our rustic wedding theme... I think it is such a nice thought to give the guests something that they will be able to remember...
