I don't think we'll be going down to D.C., unless our presence is requested at a gala, or something, by the Obama Administration. That would be great, is all I'm saying. If they wanted to. We'll be waiting for that call. Still waiting. ...

Okay- yes it's pretty great that Obama got elected against all odds and the forces of evil. BUT- yes, I'm a wet blanket- as he said himself- CHANGE, real change, comes from the bottom up as Anarchist and Obama alike has said- repeatedly. This means we can't go to sleep now that Bush is gone. The world is in a terrible state and we need to be MORE active than ever- the government will only solve our problems if we force it to do so through petions, demonstrations and direct action. So when we're done celebrating the inaguration- but the Obama iconography AWAY!!! and pick an issue that really needs our attention and support: job security, union rights, ending the war in Iraq, getting universal healthcare, holding coorporate CEOs accountable for their crimes...whatever floats your boat.. We have a lot of work to do OUTSIDE the ballot box. Obama can't do it alone. It's not YES WE DID- it's NOW WE SHOULD.

I live in DC, and I'm so excited about next week! Even if we don't get Inauguration tickets (they're notifying people today and tomorrow), we'll be wandering around, enjoying the camaraderie in the streets. I've got lots of mini-journals made of DC maps available in my shop -- perfect for those who want to document their once-in-a-lifetime trip for this upcoming week! (I've sold a few, too, so check in my sales gallery if you're interested!)

The best thing to happen to America in 8 years! and Euryale has a good point - it takes every single being to act now - to make those small changes - to change the world - for the better. Not just for your generation, nor the generation after, but for 8 generations ahead. reduce, reuse, recycle and respect :)

Agree with Euryale. I will be as far away from DC as possible on the 21st. I hate traffic, crowds, litter, etc. and I kind of like the idea of being accessible to EMTs if I have an emergency. Good luck to everyone going and God bless.

I am going to a bunch of events in my amazing hometown of Washington DC (I am flying in from my current abode in San Francisco for the pleasure.) It is going to be an amazing experience! On the night of the 20th, I am really delighted to be attending two of the balls as well as a smaller gala event - and my outfit has several Etsy touches. My head will be sporting one of LoveMely's lovely feathered hair ornaments, and around my shoulders will be a vintage velvet wrap from greygardensvintage. (The vintage clutch bag I will carry was given to me as a gift, but I think it came via Etsy, as well)
