“The realists do not take the photograph for a ‘copy’ of reality, but for an emanation of past reality, a magic, not an art.” – The inimitable Roland Barthes

I am utterly entranced by Ofer Wolberger’s “(Life with) Maggie.” This bizarre series of photographs shows “Maggie” in many different locales and moods. According to Ofer: “Maggie has a life of her own, as well as a unique style and personality. She travels around the contemporary world, but is attracted to sites with a slippery sense of time. Like the typical tourist, Maggie poses in front of objects and environments that suit her temperament, befriends the local people and visits iconic historical sites. Throughout her journey, Maggie collects memorable snapshots for her archive, in a sense constructing an identity through the photographs.”

The New York Times’ ongoing series One in 8 Million chronicles the lives of all of the unique characters that happen to occupy New York. The most recent slideshow of images was about the “urban taxidermist” Melissa Dixon. It’s so interesting to get the perspective of a taxidermy hobbyist living in the city — oddly humorous too. Meryl Truett’s road trip photography is so captivating. Her journey along the highways of the American South is so evocative and brings to mind Truman Capote style Southern Gothic. Remind me that I need to take a trip soon… [Via The Constant Gatherer]
