“Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
And the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And watch where the chalk-white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends.” — Shel Silverstein

This week’s edition of News From the Craft + Style Blogosphere has astral ladies, pink species, natural history inspired artwork and New York Fashion Week faves.

As a sci-fi fan, a Bowie lover and a fashion-obsessed lady, I’m quite pleased to see this spread inspired by The Man Who Fell to Earth. Photographer Tim Walker shot this extraterrestrial spread for Vogue UK’s October 2009 issue. (Is it odd that I see Lady Gaga all over this? Her influence is everywhere!) [Via Haute Macabre]

I always thought there weren’t any pink species, but these insects have proven me wrong. Can you imagine seeing a pink grasshopper just hoppin’ by? Identify these colorful bugs at Yahoo Green. [Via Je Voudrais Que]

So, it’s New York Fashion Week (in case you haven’t heard). There is a seemingly endless parade of spring lines being walked across runways all over the city, and it’s a tad bit overwhelming. However, I had to share some of my favorite collections. First up: cult favorite Rodarte brings my inner pagan goddess cause to rise and conquer. The layers and materials translate well to witch costumery (and remind me of Isabella Rosselini‘s character in Death Becomes Her). View the entire show here. [Via New York Magazine]

Alexander Wang’s sculptural silhouettes and capes aplenty make my mouth water. His collection actually looks…wearable! View the entire show here. [Via New York Magazine]

As a Vena Cava devotee, I had to check out what these astral ladies were up to for Spring 2010, and I was not disappointed. I adore the diaphanous veils and celestial patterned fabric. (And I can never get enough fashion geometry.) Check out the entire show here.

Saint Verde Digest always scratches my aesthetic itch, but this Kiki Smith post made me stop short. Amazing.
