Shop Makeover Series: 2009

Vanessa

Opportunities to start anew are always there when we need them, but the New Year presents itself as our go-to get-your-butt-in-gear occasion. For Etsy sellers, it’s a time to reflect and regroup and get back in the saddle.

Since last January 2008, many sellers have read and contributed to our Shop Makeover series. These posts still stand as helpful resources — and a great chunk of the Seller Handbook — but there’s always room for improvement. So this month, we want to draw sellers together to share insights, set personal goals, celebrate accomplishments, and, well, admit shortcomings.

We will be bringing you new posts added to the Shop Makeover series, some from admin and some from sellers and special guests.  Many of these posts will be accompanied by live Workshops (in the Virtual Labs).  To kick things off, we wanted to ask you readers to participate. After all, sellers can work on their shops throughout the year, but the fun part is taking the time to share tips.

  • Post links to your top selling items in the comments below. Why do you think these items appealed to shoppers? (This applies more to sellers who offer a series of similar items, rather than totally OOAK.)
  • In the comments below, share one piece of crucial advice that you learned the hard way in 2008. What would you do differently if you knew then what you know now?
  • Join our Shop Makeover flickr group. Please add your “before” and “after” screenshots throughout the month.

Get started with the Shop Makeover series.

Oh, I can't wait for the series :) I love articles that teach me something. Hrm, my top selling item? At the moment it's my Red Birds are Pretty Postcard ^_^ http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=18844289 I think it's because of the simplicity of it, the red and then the black of the ink. Slightly sad, yet childish at the same time :) My advice? Don't neglect the blog! I've got so much sales and coverage out of my blog and my readers who spread the word :) They are all valuable, especially for inspiring me to start the shop.

my best seller: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=19279911 I think it appeals as it is different, unique and reminiscent of childhood...although I don't actually know why! My piece of advice would be to try and find your niche. It is easier to market a shop with a certain look or specific range or central idea than one without one ;)

This is my most popular item probably since it was listed in a gift guide. http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=17523020 I did just redo alot of my policies and profile too to make it more concise for the new year. Something I learned the hard way in 2008 would be to get seen on etsy you should list daily or else no one will find you!

I am constantly selling out of these earrings: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=19339318 I think the reason for that is that they are witty and are a bit more subdued than my other pieces...although not in laguage ha. Scrabble is also something that appeals to multiple people so that can't hurt either. What I've learned the hard way in 2008 is that not every sale is a true sale- I have had some buyers buy things from my shop but never pay me. It's annoying when it works out like that.

Thanks for the great article and for letting us share! My top selling items were definitely bike basket liners http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5403008§ion_id=5288942. They appeal to buyers because the are completely different from the one's found in bike shops across the country, plus, you can custom order one to your liking. Crucial advice - Take better pictures and learn how to really USE my camera. I'm still learning this one and it's a work in progress but they are getting better. If I had to do it all over again I would have taken a photography class from the beginning. I will be taking one sometime this year.

I'm looking forward to read more about this series! My best-selling pendants tend to feature trees, birds, or other animals. Each one is OOAK, but some are similar. These two are very popular: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=19348955 http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=18946523 I think the first is very appealing because it is nature-oriented, and we all try to be more eco-friendly and "earth aware" these days. The second is very popular because everyone loves their pets! :)

I did a shop makeover on the last weekend of 2008. It was proceeded by a lot of article reading in both the forums and blogs. I redid my banner, policy, profile and many items. My best selling items are my Flutterbutts (puppet mobiles). I think they appeal to customers because they have a little soul in them. I convey that to the buyers using the item images and the description. I always tell a bit about the item character, likes and dislikes on top of its physical characteristics. They appeal to grown ups (my market actually) as well as kids. As long as you are in touch with your inner child, you will like them. http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=18567872 http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=10785850 http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=14968825 http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=18567852 My crucial advice is nothing new - Great images make all the difference. Invest in a good camera, and read everything you can about taking better pictures. Also, brand your shop and make that brand known.

My best seller is a tutorial for taking better, more creative pictures for ETSY. http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=19168410 I've looked around and saw that there's a huge demand for help in this area. And since pictures (taking as well as editing) are my profession, I felt qualified to dispense some advice to less experienced, or downright picture-challenged etsians. The hard lesson was getting stuck in chatrooms. Networking and socializing is important and great part of Etsy community, but sometimes it just gets out of hand and becomes addictive :) More time creating this year.

My most popular items are ones that clients can create themselves! The Chalkydoodles line of oilcloth tablecloths, splat mats and other oilcloth items are design-your-own, so the size and style are completely up to the buyer. Custom Oilcloth Tablecloth http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=14827260 Custom Oilcloth Placemats http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=19335083 Custom Oilcloth Splat Mat http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=15585463 The best way I've found to be "found" on Etsy is through Gift Guides, Showcases and Storque features (I was just featured in the Get the Look Spotlight series this past weekend) and other special series such as the Handmade Kids series this summer. I love this series, and I'm looking forward to improving my shop throughout the coming year. One of my best sellers in the past few months has been my "Let's Have Coffee" notecards: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=18721589 I think that the colors, the simple name that immediately conveyed the product, and the close-ups that easily showed the cute illustration all made it appealing to customers. I'm fairly pleased with my photographs in my shop as they are, but I want to continue in the new year to make more improvements so that they really stand out. My lesson this year has been learning to deal with the ebbs and flows of being a seller. I'm trying to learn not to be discouraged during "down" times in my shop, but instead to take advantage of that time to create more or do a little extra marketing. Good luck to everyone this year!

    AliBaliJewellery says:

My bestsellers online and at craft fairs are definately my fine silver crochet cuff bracelets. http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=17348386 I think they appealed because crochet made a major comeback this year, cuffs are in fashion, but these are a lovely delicate version. I think the option to have any combination of stones and pearls also made these attactive. My hardest lesson in my first year on etsy is that it is not enough to merely list and wait for the buyers to come to you. You need to get your products out there and seen by as many people as possible. Marketing on the web has been a very steep learning curve for me and despite some progress, I've still got a mountain to climb here! I'm I allowed two lessons??..... I'll go for it anyway ... photos!!! My first ones were shockers!!!

Etsy, thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to share with others! I love that you are listening and caring. I'm pretty new to Etsy, so my first four months have involved quite the learning curve! I didn't realize just how much work it would be to promote and spend time (and money) getting your shop seen. these sold fast! http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=19290604 I think its because we all love witty things, but things that are beautiful and good for the environment. They're upcycled paper flower bobby pins made from old shakespeare pages. And I learned that being active in the forums and being nice to other Etsians brings good karma ;) And you have to price your time into the pieces. Ripping yourself off is not profitable and really lowers your shops's self esteem!

Hi! Because I use vintage fabric there is a limit to how many of each I can make, but here's one pillow I made several of.. which seemed to sell out quickly: http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=12397130 And here's another example of something I made in a limited run but which seemed to always sell shortly after I listed them: http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=12030386 I would say one hard lesson has been regarding shipping. I try to be accurate and not rush when doing my estimates and shipping profiles, but I still struggle with trying to correctly predict the cost especially when more than one item is sold and many of my items are of different weights.

But the dodo and crow are right up there too. I've really improved my photos in the past year which has helped a lot. And listing new things daily keeps people coming back to the shop - important since repeat customers are a big part of my business.

My best seller is this screenprinted moleskine, http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=19091321 I think it's because it has a nice graphic quality, it's simple and feminine but not too girly--the gold on black feels very elegant. I have this design in other color combos, but this one remains the most popular. I'm with enhabiten about the shipping. My advice would be the same as hers... I know it is quite a bit of work figuring out shipping weight and costs and setting those shipping profiles up. But it's better than having to pay for shipping out of your own pocket cause you miscalculated! Happened to me a few times, esp with international shipping. Or worse, I had something returned to me for postage due--but it took 2 weeks just to make its way back to me! My customer was so understanding about the whole thing, but boy was it embarrasing (I did make it up to her)! I now have a digital scale and am working on revising my shipping!

It was a custom design done for a friend, who graciously allowed me to sell it commercially. http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=18643270 A lot of different emotions can be attributed to it. I also think the product description works well. My biggest improvement to my shop last year was an overhaul of my product photos. I picked a harmonious palette for my backgrounds and committed myself to finding unique eyecatching details for my opening thumbnails. I've definitely seen an uptick in my jewelry sales, and my shop pages look more consistent and vibrant as a result. Still a few listings to update though!

I was actually watching pretty closely this year to see what was selling as I decided this year to focus on building up my "brand" image, while somewhat trying to identify it completely myself. I found that indeed my "modern. contemporary." look that I really love both personally in my own style, and loved making did indeed sell for me, as for example this item sold in multiple here http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=11819754 and also frequently at shows, as well as other variations of similar simple metalwork worked well. Part I think due to the economy, as my simpler pieces could have lower prices. Though I also found that this was a big seller: http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=10847814 I think a large part in that the photo came out "just perfect" But I did find that my vintage-style stuff can sell just as easily as the modern. I think the hardest lesson, not from anything bad happening, but just from having to invest a lot of work was how important it is to build a brand. A recognizable logo on everything from boxes, to logo, to banners has been important to me. Making sure my "image" fits perfectly with the jewelry I'm selling as well as how it is photographed was important. I found the more consistent I was in presenting that image the more my business grew this year. Consequently, my new year resolution has been to create a second "retro collection" brand to keep my antiqued styles somewhat separate from my modern, and to continue to build on the cohesive look of things. Creating an identity is an important lesson to learn and practice. (whew...lots of words...sorry!)

I sell vintage, so I don't have a best seller list. One thing I totally flubbed on last year were shipping things off incorrectly. I'm international so shipping can be a bit tricky. But it made me realize how all of us rely heavily on the postal service to finish our orders. So for me, it was important to learn the ropes at the post office (there is an art to shipping!) Also, this has always been emphasized but it's so important: Have fantastic photos, makes your photos treats for people to look at. I think this is the most important thing.

Oh, another thing I have learned, though maybe not "the hard way" was that you definitely, absolutely must try to include as many photos from as many different angles as you can, in your listings. Sometimes being creative and making a sort of collage in the last two photo slots helps make a sale! People want to see all of what they're getting, as though they held it in their own hands!

The UglyKitty Fund is definitely my top selling item: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=5071141 Not only does Quasi bring people in, I mean she's just too sneazy...I mean cute, but the donation/button is inexpensive and people like to know they're helping shelter animals. My best advice is to use Flickr and upload all your photos to there as well - just don't put a link to your shop in the photo description (it's against Flickr rules). I get so much business from there. Remember to tag everything on Flickr as well. The tagged items will show up in Google and Yahoo! image searches. So if you get someone looking for "handmade purse" they'll find your Flickr and hopefully your shop too!

For the giver, it's fun to send something sassy with a clever saying to your friend. For the receiver, you get a giggle out of the phrase and a little sense of sexiness! This is probably my "most sold" item: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=19255155 I think the photography helps quite a bit. Obviously Twilight is a huge craze right now, but I think it's so important to come up with an original idea, rather than to use the book covers, or regular quote found in the book. I think customers like the crisp, "not over the topness" (heh) of the "Be safe" pendant. This is probably my other best seller: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=19002507 Again, I think photography helps. That and the resilience of resin maybe? That and Chicago just rules. :)

Such a wonderful idea! Great inspiration and info into what makes a best seller. I am a new shop & haven't sold anthing on etsy at this point, but so far have had a huge response to my Flora Tee including several requests for the tee in different sizes and even a wholesale order that's in works! Additionally, this tee is always the first to sell out locally. http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?... This tee requires quite a bit more time to create than the others and I think my customers appreciate that and are willing to pay more for it. I have even done "tests" where I price my other tees significantly lower than this one and it still sells out first.

Thanks for the opportunity to share! I love clicking on these links and knowing I'm going to see great items when I do! Fun! Mom and I started selling in November, so we didn't really have a lot of time in 2008 to call ourselves sellers. But we've been here long enough to have learned a crucial tip- MACRO PHOTOGRAPHY OMG YAY!!! Now, we made sales before I learned I had a macro setting on my camera, so I can't say that good shots are critical for a sale, but I do think great photos are essential for building a business that will grow. Our photos say so much about how we feel about our product- the placement and posing, the lighting and angles, the number of photos (use all 5 slots!), and the general "feel" of a photo really make or break a view! All that being said, I'll list our first sale and cringe a little because it was our very first listing and you'll see how far we've come!!! http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=11657621 Note the 2 photos (only two?!) *fail*! Look at the details I could have gotten with Macro! And yet, this was our opening sale- our "welcome" to Etsy, so I guess charm won over that time (that, and the fact that red and yellow are a killer combination!)! I look forward to learning even more in 2009, and making even more Etsy friends!

I doodle little cartoons and write things like "Hard to buy for? No more!" with the address to Etsy and leave them with my coworkers, friends, family, grocery clerks, and any it's not unusual to hear me talk up Etsy in line at the bank.

Wow - great suggestions for the New Year! Thank you! As a photographer, I have found that my top sellers are the prints that I really enjoyed creating. I think it is the joy and the love and the freedom that I am feeling when I capture the image that shines through to the customer - it sounds totally hokey, I know, but that's what I think and it is confirmed in my sales. Both prints are panoramic and relatively small in size - approx 17" long. One is my favorite spot at the pacific ocean at sunset and the sky is filled with pinks and blues. http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=17873847 The other is the first print of the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco at sunset. Also, I think it would be pretty darn cute even if it weren't for TV. My top selling item would have to be my wrist warmers: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=19234444 I think I make them in a large enough variety of colors, sizes and materials, and list them at an affordable price where I still make a profit. But also I tend to list these of everything I sell, the most in my shop, so I'm sure that that has been part of the reason for them ending up selling the most too. One thing I learned the hard way in 2008: That I can't rely on just a few items in my shop to attract buyers, I need to list a LOT and promote a lot more outside of Etsy as well.

And thanks to the amazing artists that I see on this great site, I am encouraged to create and sell some original, crafty artwork myself! shopgoldmine.etsy.com Thanks, fellow Etsians!

I think that scarabs are lucky and the beauty of the vitrail glass - its smoothness and depth is very compelling. http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=18920808 I work hard on my pictures and have tried to make the objects I photograph look as delectable as possible. I also have tried to give my shop a personality through interesting descriptions and informative profile information. It's fun to develop new ideas to keep my shop fresh, and as most of my items are ooak, customers often come by just to see what's new, even if they don't always buy. Stay fresh & challenged by your materials and let your shop evolve - don't just make the same thing over & over.

I mostly sell ooak items in my shop-which is terrific because I ship immediately to my customers. The lesson I learned the hard way this year is that when you have a majority of items like that, you have to keep a tight inventory of what you sell at shows, so that relisting is easy-and so that you don't accidentally relist it when it's gone!

Turned out to be a good move! A more streamlined shop appearance, consistent designs, pops of newely listed designs (I'm getting better with this part since the new year began!), lovely colors, clear photos, fun descriptions and various price points all contribute to a good round of sales (both on Etsy and through my own website). Also getting much better at taking solid dynamic photos of the items; being ready with a business card if anyone asks (which you find they do...often!). That coupled with excellent and personable customer service makes Ciara Obscura a very happy business!

My best seller is just happening now...http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=19140231 I did a big makeover in dec 2008. I had tooo many things going on, paintings, vintage, supplies, photography, jewelry etc. I have been studying on "branding" and taking better photos. So, I cleaned up the store, redid my banner, which i use in all my other areas of the internet now. My blogs etc. I narrowed down my store to photography (mostly photo greeting cards, Painting (mostly ACEOs) AND MY JEWELRY! The ACEO's have taken off by a bird series, I was inspired by the Twittering I had just joined. I call the one listed here, "non conformist" in my twitter friends series. I do not use twitter in the name of the aceo. I took a poll from all friends, customers, and any one who would listen before the makeover of what I should carry. I love to do tons of creative things, but too much made my store look like a thrift store! From their comments, I now carry what I have in the store now. I also found out that the little short area in the space under the banner is where the google search gets its info. So i put in there what my art is..... "nature inspired photography, art and Jewelry" I now have had much more sales, and I am excited for this year. Jan 2009 is my one year anniversary. I also love love love to do treasuries. I think that helps in connecting, as well as blogs, and twitter, etc. Thank you etsy, your the best!

Thanks for a great shop makeover series of articles. I am newer here rather than been here for a while, but have learned so much and incorporated it into setting up my shop. Especially about branding and gaining a cohesive and uniquely recognizable look. I've also learned to focus my efforts and not to spread myself thin tying to set up too many outlets at once or listing too many items in the same day. We carry a wide variety of vintage and antique jewelry and have been featured in 6 treasuries since joining Etsy a few months ago. What an honor! The items have ranged widely from Victorian to Art Deco pieces. Since we carry OOAK pieces I don't have a particular best seller, but I do have items that get lots of hits from viewers. I also wanted to say...Handmade items always commanded higher prices but it seems that we are all competing and our prices are so low at times it is hard to know what to do. If we price for all of our time (photos, descriptions, creativity ideas, production, materials), there is no way we can sell for $1! Our handmade items are all one of a kind. I think by pricing so low, we are hurting ourselves. Now I am speaking from a jewelry standpoint but looking at handmade knitted items and comparing them to store bought, the prices are much higher and rightfully so. Jewelry starts in the store for mass production at maybe $7. I hope I made my point clear. We should price for all that goes into our product. Thank you for taking up so much space. Patti

I even have a flickr group now where pattern buyers can show off what they make, if they choose. I would say, without a doubt, that getting a good camera, and a shipping scale, were among the most important moves I made in 2008. The camera allowed me to get texture across to shoppers, and the scale allowed me to realistically price shipping so its affordable (I used to only offer Priority shipping!). My best selling item is: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=19294992 Mostly I think that is due to the classic sophisticated nature of the fabric, black and white coordinates with quite a lot and appeals to many. People also really love the "robins egg blue" color - it's so pretty and happy. One crucial thing I learned in 2008 is to make sure I have good tags.

When I started on Etsy my plan was to sell my amazing crocheted wearable art. Its been selling quite well at the local art festivals for the past 5 years and I wanted an online venue. After three or four months with no sales, my partner (an Etsy buyer) was in touch with a soapmaker who was looking for a very unique wooden soapdeck in small quantities. Being the softhearted soul that he is, and always up for a challenge, he designed said soapdeck for her shop, and asked me to list it for her. The response was fantastic! So many people wanted information and asked about other soapdecks so I started listing a few. Within a very short time I had listings in wholesale lots at various price points to satisfy all the inquiries. Who would have known? http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5769351§ion_id=5694357

My best selling item has been my Orbital necklace: http://www.etsy.com/search_results_shop.php?search_type=user_shop_ttt_id_5286025&search_query=orbital While the colors change on which one sells, the design is the same. I have also sold a lot of my knit bracelets - but I have so many OOAK on those, that I can't really consider it one design. I think the one thing I've learned in 2008 is shop maintenance. Make sure your profile is up to date - change it up on occasion, keep your shoppers interested in you. Also, if you pictures are season specific, change them when the seasons change. I started out with season specific pictures and quickly realized how much work that created, so I keep it simple and universal now. Wow - I could go on forever about what I've learned and about what I'm still learning each and every day. I love this shop makeover series!

My best seller was my vintage glove mold. http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=12507847 I sold over 50 of them in 4 months. Now by far it's the black walnut ink that I make with my son. http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=19754971 I never dreamed it would be as popular as it is. I just redid the photo a few days ago by getting my son to squeeze into a t-shirt of mine and posing with a handful of ink bottles ;) But I've gotten a lot of convos about how nice the photo is, and it definitely seems to have helped sell the ink! The original picture I used is the one that's now second in the listing. I think the new one has a lot more "snazz", as my FIL would say!

I learned that shirts sell MUCH faster when modeled by people... Also, I think it's important to have a good amount of items in your shop with neutral backgrounds because they tend to fit into more Treasuries that way. Easy to do - just go into Photoshop & use "replace color" -> desaturate to get rid of any tints... Just my 2 cents!

My top seller is my new custom Spring 2009 line. I started debuting it mid 2008 and my sales shot up drastically because my customers could now order the item to their fit. However My Rescued & Recycled Wrap Skirt was one of my best sellers for 2008 http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=19219470 I think because it is made of all recycled patches, and because it has a one size fits all mentality... and lastly because I have a childs wrap skirt that can be custom made to match and so they are great for baby shower gifts... etc. The learning curve in 2008 was painful for me this year, exciting now looking back but frustrating....I love to sew & design... but this year I had to expand myself to learning the art of photography and marketing and book keeping and much more. I think for the first few months I signed up on etsy I just focused only on the outfit being sold, the craftmanship... but my photos were not inviting and professional. Although I was making sales, I wasnt drawing in many new people. If I was to do anything different, I would NEVER SKIMPY ON THE PHOTOS.. ( that photo is the MOST important thing when all the customer has to go by is the picture you capture). I also would sell things in tiered pricing.... to attract more buyers from all over.... and lastly, I would offer customs if you make clothing in different sizes so all people can join in the fun. So excited for 2009 * Thanks for this great article.

My best seller it my organic peace sign necklace: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=18914558 I think Peace is a concept on people's minds daily. I couldn't find a small peace sign anywhere when I first made this design - especially a jewlery item that wasn't huge. I've noticed more around now which is really exciting. But I don't think this is the case everywhere yet because almost all of my sales have been to the midwest and south. I've learned so much the past year that I have been actively running my shop. The more time I put in, the more sales I have. Photography has been an ongoing journey - all my jewelry is so tiny I've had to lean about macro settings and still find I have to correct the lighting in photoshop. I've also been learning tons about web marketing in general and now stats with the addition of Google Analytics which is pretty exciting as this is such a great skill to have! All my listings are a work in progress - there are many tweaks I would like to make in the copy and images. I also have lots of items not even listed yet = it takes time!

http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=18918426 I couldn't pick out one Alice bag - all of them sold well in 2008. One reason was that we were featured on the "Hotlist" of the teen magazine Shojo Beat in September - we immediately had a real rush on the bag shown (Alice and the Caterpillar messenger). Another was being in Etsy finds in the summer (thanks!) I think mainly though, Alice is always a popular theme and we really took care to make these bags special. We worked from a 19th century Alice book and spent hours restoring the images (these old book illustrations tend to fade and go brownish) and testing out the printing on different kinds of fabric so that we got a really detailed, colour-rich picture. It paid off for us!

i joined etsy nov. 2007 and i've only sold 37 things. i tried paying for a showcase (total waste of money). my intent was to sell photography prints but i added jewelry, magnets and supplies. this has been my most popular print: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=13823634 (possibly because it was featured on a website) and i also sell a lot of these mario/pac man magnets: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5390495§ion_id=5219736

What a wonderful thread! We have only been with Etsy since Nov. '08. In that time, we've made 7 sales. Our first sales coming by way of "Sneak Attack" compliments of Blockhead Radio. Our body butter seems to be the winner... http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=17834097 We formulated our body butter and lotion so that it is both non-greasy so it absorbs quickly but leaves a silky after feel. Followed by our sugar scrub... http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=18485340 Our sugar scrub is thick and creamy so you don't lose it through your fingers in the shower....that was really important to us. We are still learning this very new and exciting online environment. One thing that we have drastically improved on is our pics and we are still changing them around. And I agree that your pics are extremely important as it is the first visual a potential customer has with your product. We are also becoming more active online, myspace, blogs, etc and here on Etsy so that we are seen more. No more sitting back and waiting for sales! The support here is just wonderful....thanks Etsy Community!!! ;-)

I was made aware of Etsy by one of my very "Indie-aware" daughters. For many years I had been making and selling my leather and wood products on a local basis with word of mouth being my major form of advertising. This new international exposure is just too exciting and an adventure beyond belief. Etsy and its' community is just the greatest and I am proud to be a part of it. When I am not working in the shop, I spend all of my "other" time devoted to a volunteer motorcycle group that dedicates itself to protecting the rights of and honoring our brave Military Heroes and their Families. In these hard economic times it's hard to devote time to any volunteer efforts but my newfound exposure thru Etsy is enabling me to continue with those efforts and I'm thankful for that. The item most sold in my shop is also one of my personal favorites and I call it the "Coral Kiss Wave". Here's the link: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=18791408 Good Wishes for prosperity to all of you on here and thank you Etsy!!! Hawk
