Sellers,
As many of you have expressed through the Forums, in surveys and at meet-ups, there’s a big demand for regional shipping options. We are happy to announce that we are currently conducting a closed beta test of new shipping regions. This tool will give sellers the ability to set shipping costs for a predefined region, thus alleviating the problem of setting the same shipping costs across many countries.
Below is a list of the regions we are testing. (We may add additional regions at a later date.)
- Africa
- Central America
- European Union (EU) countries
- Europe non-EU countries
- South America
When using the tool, beta testers can see which countries are included within these regions.
Below is a preview screenshot of the new Your Etsy > Shipping Options page with Shipping Regions:

As you browse items on Etsy, you might notice that our beta testers’ listings may display shipping costs using the new regions. Below is an example of shipping information on a listing that uses Shipping Regions:

If you see listings that look like this: don’t be alarmed! This is a sign of good things to come. We do not anticipate problems with transactions involving Shipping Regions, but please communicate with the seller (who is likely a beta tester) and contact Etsy’s Support Team if you experience any transaction issues related to Shipping Regions. Thanks for being patient while we work out the kinks during this testing period.

This is terrible! The forums are buzzing with complaints about the shipping order on their listings - Your own country is no longer on top! Put this back so that if you are selling from the US then US shipping should show up first. This is going to be a problem for buyers who do not look down the shipping list and stop at the first expecting to find US. Also - there are ten (10) international shipping regions with different shipping rates from the US - not five! Put it back the way it was!

Very nice :) Wish you could add a feature that we could be more felexible with the second item's shipping costs. For example: If the second item is a parcel or if it's an envelope(Letter Mail for prints). Because some items can not be shipped together. Many thanks again for everything!

maybe I was not very clear... I mean if buyer buys more than one item them the form field that says: "If shipped with another item" could be a drop down menu, so that the buyer can choose the shipping between different items. For example the drop down menu that we entered two choices: 1.Doll 2.Print It's really my dream! For now I had to write the price of my biggest item for the second item's shipping price and it scares buyers I guess, Although I have explained that I combine the shipping and return their money. Thank you again Etsy admins! You are already the best :)

Ooo! This option will be great. Joojoo: I think you may be misunderstanding how the combined shipping works. If an item can't be shipped with another then you would just put the same price as shipping by itself. Otherwise you put a price that when combined with the shipping of another item equals the shipping cost. I just looked at a couple of your listings and some you have the item shipping for more when shipped with another item than by itself which doesn't make sense.

I already read the blip about the home country. It really needs to be first for where ever a seller is. The way it is is a bit unclear. There are people who would prefer to buy within their own country first. The country order IS important as a first impression. I do limited international. Will I be able to keep what I already put in my profile? AND if this is in beta testing why is the impact already showing up?

What I would love to see is a place to add expedited shipping options. I have many customers contact me to ask if I can ship an item via Priority Mail, and I have to send an additional invoice through PayPal and all that jazz...I think many buyers (and sellers) would like to see upfront that Priority shipping is an option, and what the cost would be.

RomanceCatsAndWhimsy says:
This is disappointing. I was hoping for a real shipping calculator. For those of us who sell many different items at different weights, it's a pain to try to figure out shipping for each of those areas and VERY time consuming. Additionally, if there is only ONE PRICE for the US, we then have the difficult choice of inserting either the highest shipping cost (I'm on the west coast) and losing west coast buyers or inserting a mid range price and losing money on shipping costs. We can offer a shipping refund but not everyone reads all of the print.

Finally! Bijoutery is right! I would add a North America as a region! Mexico could fit there. Even there are many thoughtful stores that include Mexico separately there are many others that charge like they have to send the item to Australia from US. I don't buy from those stores that overcharged you in shipping. This could be really helpful, more real! Why did it take so long to implement this?

I guess this is an improvement but an actual shipping calculator would be so much better. I don't understand why it would be such a big deal to add one. It makes the most sense and would take the guessing out of shipping costs. sellers could stop loosing money on shipping and buyers could stop over paying shipping. This new feature would not make me anymore likely to offer international shipping. a calculator would.

MyVintageAddiction says:
I vote for the shipping calculator also...much easier and less guessing! At least we're headed in the right direction. THANK YOU!

RamblingRoseJewels says:
Wonderful!!! I am new here and have been asking in the forums on how to manage all the different shipping costs for international shipping. It is still going to be a little awkward when different countries zone the shipping areas differently i.e. different areas grouped together for zone A than they would be for another country. But it is a great step forward. For calculating international shipping by weights, I can't see how that would be possible as sellers are located all over the world and different countries have different charges for weight and destination combined. For NZ Post the charges are per 100 grams by one method and for another it is from over 500 grams going up in 10 gram increments. The difficulty is that an article weighing 200 grams doesn't cost double the shipping for 100 grams. Luckily NZ post has an online calculator in which I will be able to plug in the weight and destination to get the cost.

I'm excited to see etsy making some strides towards improving the shipping options! However, please, please, PLEASE change the order of the countries back to the way they were listed originally when we set up our shipping profiles. I had mine set up for: US Canada Mexico Everywhere Else and now they show up: Canada Mexico US Everywhere Else This is a MAJOR turnoff! The buyers from my own country (US) are going to see higher shipping charges first for international countries before seeing their lower shipping rates and we all may lose sales! There was NO reason to change it from the way we all had it set up in our own shipping profiles - that way we could choose to have our own country listed first. :(

Caution! Honesty to follow: I don't want to ship across the ocean, because very, very few customers are willing to pay the shipping costs... ETSY ADMIN: We want shipping regions WITHIN the United States This is because it costs $12 to ship all the way to the opposite coast, but only $8 to ship to the same coast. That $4 difference can mean the difference in making the sale or not. It's too much trouble to refund money after the sale.
