Here in the UK I don't think we can even begin to imagine the horror of those fires... I only wish there was some way of sending some of our rain down under! Be strong, this too will pass.

As an Aussie I am sending hope and a quick end to this devastation. Also as a member of etsy for animals I am hoping that all those animals still alive are found and given medical care. I have listed some items in my store that will be donating 100% to help the Aussie animals.

I too - for some unexplained reason seem to have quite a few customers from Australia. I have had all of you - both my customers and all of our wonderful etsy sellers 'down under' in my thoughts and prayers in recent days - I pray you are all safe from harm.

Thanks for the support. Given Victoria is such a small state and there are so many fires burning, most of us live within an hour of at least one major blaze. On Saturday afternoon, the sky was brown and the air was thick with smoke.....it was also the hottest day here in history (in some areas, it got to 118F). I woke up this morning to see on the news that the fires are actually getting worse, fanned by strong winds. My heart breaks.

I live in Victoria a couple of hours away from the fires, and I saw and smelt the smoke from my house, it was that bad. My mum also has a colleague at work who lost 8 of her friends and all of her pets. Its terrible what has happened, and my heart goes out to all fellow Victorians.

As an Aussie, thanks etsy for raising awarness about this heartbreaking and devestating situation. You might also be aware of the severe flooding that is also occuring up in the north of Queensland which has claimed lives. If you want to help, the best way to donate aid to either of these catastrophes is to make an online doantion to the Red Cross at www.redcross.org.au and follow the links to the Victoria 2009 fire relief or to the North Queensland flood relief funds. Donations can be made via credit card online. The minimum donation amount is $6 Australian. The doanation count is over $31million this morning but much more is needed. People have lost whole families, friends, pets, livestock and every single thing they have ever owned except for the clothes on their backs. There have been many generous donations of clothing, food, and household goods. A money donation will help the most for the long term rehabilitation of the people and the affected areas. Please give generously. I have already made a number of donations. Unfortunatly most of the fires were started by arsonists, and the prime minister has declared that when they are all caught, they will be tried as mass murderers. On a positive note, the stories of heroism, selflessness and caring have been overwhelming in response to the ongoing situation. Thanks for reading this, Sarah

Thank you all for your kind words and support. The fires have come within 12 km of my home but I am fortunate that it did not hit our town. Unfortunately two of the worst fires resulting in over 100 deaths were deliberately lit. Australia is a wonderful place to live, but every summer we are faced with the same thing, this summer has been extremely bad though. Even though bush fires are an unfortunate part of life, the fires started by arson is not and I'm sure that the people that have been caught with this crime will be punished, but it will not bring back all the loss lives both human and of our animals and the devastation that they have caused. It's all very sad.

May everyone be safe from here on in! I am helping with the Etsy Craftivists donation drive, and will be listing some "rain" soaps tonight! All the proceeds go to helping those affected by this tragedy. Our prayers are with you all!

The current fire situation has left its devestation on our wildlife including the loss of at least two wildlife shelters to the fires. Wildlife Victoria are trying to assertain the safety of other shelters in the fire areas and to offer support and help with evacuation of animals already in their care if they need it. Thanks for all of the support. As someone who once lived in Buxton (10 mins from Marysville)we know the threat of fire all too well. So far our family, who still lives there, are safe and saved their houses by meeting the fire head on - they fought and they won! My sister in law is still fighting to save her house and we hope the end to her story is just as positive.

We lived in Perth and have experienced bush fire. It was very scary. Thus my heart goes to all who have lost their home and/or love ones. Our hearts go to you.

I'm in South Australia across the border from Victoria, but also in a fire-prone area of the Adelaide Hills. I know too well the devastation which can occur. Such a wonderful, heartfelt support from the Etsy community is amazing - as is the resilience of all the Aussies affected! It will be a long journey for many.

Thank you for putting this story together and getting the word out about the devastation and tragedy in Victoria. Thanks to everyone for all your warm wishes and prayers. A terrible terrible thing, hope it will be over soon...

We live close to the affected area and are ready to leave, it is very comforting to have support from so far afield. So many people are doing so much, at my daughters little school we have managed to raise 1000's of dollars for the Bushfire Appeal, it is so very heartwarming how generous people are from far and wide.

It´s very sad... My aunt and my cousins live there and fortunately they´re well. I live in Argentina and similar things have been happening in the last year...fire, water... I hope everyone are well here and there.

Such devastation, my heart and prayers go out to all of those affected, such a tragic waste and lives lost and will be a long journey for many as they re-build their lives. A big HUG to all !

Many heartfelt thanks from an Aussie... for all of your beautiful thoughts and sympathy to those people and animals that are suffering in the Victorian Bush fires. It is tragic... the loss of lives both people and all of the animals...so many people are without homes now as well. It makes me angry that some of these fires were apparently... DELIBERATELY LIT...I cannot understand what makes a person 'tick'... to do such a horrible crime. Whilst the southern part of Australia is burning... Queensland (up North of our country) has been in terrible floods. So we have two huge diasters going on in our country at one time. It is so sad. Again, thank you... to all of you, for all of your kind thoughts and wishes to my fellow Australians.
