Etsy Statistics: March 2010 Weather Report

March was another stimulating month for Etsy’s marketplace’s growth. Here are the numbers:

  • $22.4 million of goods were sold by our community in March, roughly 11% higher than February’s $20.2 million.
  • That represents 1,302,597 items sold for the month, 10% higher than February’s 1,186,311.
  • 2,008,387 new items were listed in the month, 9.7% higher than February’s 1,830,825.
  • 246,834 new members joined the Etsy community in the month, up 10,800, or 4.6%, from February.
  • 718,635,940 page views were recorded on the site this month.

The $22.4 million of goods sold by the community represents a 84% increase from March 2009′s total. At the same time, items sold were up 65%.

    I am one of the newer sellers, joined in February 2010. March was a big month for me, 9 sales!! Peanuts for some I know, but after three in the first month it was very encouraging it has given me the push to keep going! It's great to part of the community!

    It's already been pointed out that March has 3 more days - 10% more, give or take - than February, so a 10%-ish gain in sales from Feb to March tells us nothing except that the average daily sales was about the same. I'd like to see some breakdowns as to how buyer vs sellers, new vs established, different categories (handmade vs vintage vs supplies) and so on before I toast the 10% increase in days in a month and the 10% increase in sales as being significant to me the seller. It's nice to have a Weather Report, but if I'm not getting the rain, this isn't telling me why. :-)

    I returned to Etsy in late March after having my shop temporarily closed for about a year due to family health issues.     After a wonderfully busy holiday season in 2009, we were looking forward to some slack time at the first of the year. Didn't happen! Our sales did drop down a bit from November and December, but were 3 to 4 times what they were for the same months in 2009. We were definitly part of the great stats.     I would like to see breakdowns in categories so we can look at trends. If we see trends, we can see what peopel are most interested in buying and tailor our artistic creativity in that direction.

Thanks< It seems to me the the number of new shops is growing much faster than the number of new buyer accounts. If so, it explains alot about why so many previously successful shops' have ground to a halt. It also seems that Etsy is a long way from being a household word to the larger public. Will there ever be an advertising campaign that actually makes Etsy more visible?

    congratulations! I made a simple calculation - that from all the page views only 0.18% ended in sale. "look, look, no buy" as they say in Thailand :) Would be great if you make other statistic too, which price range is the most popular and which section.

    i hope Etsy is investing a massive amount of money into their Support and Customer Service Teams... otherwise I see Etsy just being another Ebay... just with not so high fees, and no quality in relation to customer service.
