The Etsy Latino Team is an active group composed of talented Latino-American artists spread around the world. Lolo Sinclair, a.k.a. lolos, is a Chilean artist working as a designer in multiple disciplines . Mariló Puerta, a.k.a. BululuStudio, is a Venezuelan artist, crafter and interior designer that loves to work with wood. Lolo and Mariló like to get together to come up with crazy ideas and have trouble taking things too seriously.

Lolo Sinclair (lolos) es una artista chilena que trabaja como diseñadora en múltiples disciplinas. Mariló Puerta (BululuStudio) es una artista venezolana, diseñadora de interiores que le agrada trabajar la madera. A Lolo y Mariló les gusta reunirse y crear ideas locas y divertidas y a veces les cuesta tomar las cosas muy en serio.
The mere mention of Father’s Day gives me a headache. Any other “day” — Mother’s, Teacher’s, Secretary’s or Valentine’s — has very well defined gifts. I know, I know, you are supposed to recognize and celebrate the great deeds (even fumbles) of all those who created, regulated, controlled and coerced you. And how do you do that? For one half, it’s very easy. Mother likes to be taken to her favorite restaurant at the end of a day that has also included breakfast in bed, a trip to the spa and a soothing massage. Done, easy.

Nice teachers get scented candles, for some reason. I guess unconsciously we imagine them in a sort of altar where we worship them and ask for favors (usually A’s). Nasty teachers get scented candles as well. We hope somehow they catch fire and return to Hell where they come from.

Valentine’s Day is a cinch. First of all a card, always a card, and the funnier the better. The good thing about this one is that there are so many options (but don’t forget the day, which will bring catastrophic results, including psychological torture). So get a balloon, some flowers and a little tchotchke if you remember their particular obsessions; is it elephants or bumblebees? Make sure you check beforehand. The important thing is the significance of the gesture, or so we are told. So far it has always worked.
El dia de los Enamorados es el mas fácil. Primero que nada una tarjeta, mientras mas chistosa, mejor. Lo bueno de esta ocasión es que nos ofrece muchas opciones, incluida la de olvidarnos, cosa que por supuesto es calamitosa y resulta en tortura psicológica entre otras. En todo caso, no olvidarse de un globo plateado, flores y algun adefecio si es que te acuerdas de sus obsesiones particulares, a ver… Le gustan las ranas? Los colibrís o los elefantes? Asegurate de comprobarlo antes de revisar tu colección de regalitos promocionales obtenidos en ferias, convenciones etc. Recuerda que lo importante es el significado del gesto. Al menos eso dicen. But Father’s Day? I shudder…the memory of socks and ties, even underpants or suspenders, that my mom gave my dad as presents — forcing his otherwise gentle smile into a grimace as he tried to fake his appreciation.
Pero el Día del Padre? Madre mia! Tiemblo en pensarlo…el recuerdo de calcetines, corbatas y hasta calzoncillos que mi madre regalaba a mi padre convertía su agradable sonrisa en una mueca que acompañaba la necesaria pantomima de falsa emoción al ser reconocido como el calcetinero oficial.

My circle of girlfriends see no problem in buying their father yet another barbecue themed apron, a gator beer holder or a pair of purple pajamas. Not me, not ever. I agonize for at least a couple of weeks before this dreaded date, lose my concentration as I wander aimlessly across the mall, knowing quite well that there is no chance I will find something that he would be interested in.

But there are soo many great ideas on Etsy for fathersday... a great pair of cufflinks that you have had made especially for him?? My husband loves the handmade cards that my girls always make him... cost... a nice piece of card and a few felt tipped pens... that's all. Dad does not always want something big... just hugs and a card.

Such a true article! Its always so hard what to get for fathers day as a gift. This year I got my dad some beer soap from the soap beer co. here on Etsy they're his favourite beers so hopefully he'll like them as soap!
