Tell us a bit about yourself.

Hi, I am Shan Shan. My first name is Shan and my last name is Shan, too. I was born and raised in QinTao of China. I lived and studied in Kyoto, Japan until two years ago when I moved to Osaka from Kyoto with my husband, who’s a game creator. I love Kyoto so much; it is the most beautiful place in my mind.

I am a fashion blogger, but my blog isn’t only about fashion. I love to feature my work, my favorite art, photographs and lovely people I see and meet.

I also have two other shops on Etsy: Tinyvintagewardrobe for vintage items, and tinytoadstoolfoto for photographs.

Apart from creating things, what do you do?

I do a variety of jobs: blogging, online shop owner, magazine reporter, photographer, craft teacher, textile artist and translator. In the near future, I would like to work as a stylist.

FS_dadaya_1.jpgWhat first made you want to become an artist?

Even as a child, I wanted to be different from everyone else. I loved to customize and make my own clothes. I found making my original clothes and art to be the best outlet for me to be creative and unique.

Please describe your creative process.

I’m always inspired by art and fashion. I start by going through my recent scribbles in my sketchbook.
Then I move on to the “how”: felting, dyeing, embroidery, and finally finishing by making a lining for the hat.

I am a housewife, so I go into work mode as soon as my husband leaves for work. As for materials, the main base is wool and yarn, and I use lace and beads for decoration, and fabric for the lining.

I love vintage items, photographs, and enjoy all fun, original art and handmade items.

What advice would you give to artists who are new to Etsy?

Keep your work original and take beautiful photographs!

I love the Treasury and Etsy Finds; they always make me happy! I am very happy with Etsy. You guys are the best!

How do you promote your work?

Although I don’t proactively do any promotion for my work, I use my Flickr and Facebook accounts, blog, and website to announce any shop updates and upcoming exhibitions for my local customers.

In ten years, where would you like to be?

Making fashion and crafts with my future children in my vintage shop and cafe!
