Katja and Minna live in Oulu, Finland where they renovate and decorate their 1950s rowhouse apartment on a budget, but with lots of love. Check out their blog, Nestled In, and Katja’s Flickr for more pictures of their beautiful home.

Now that the holidays are behind us our thoughts have turned to the new year. It’s a time for fresh starts and maybe a few new year’s resolutions (ours is to get more organized around the house). Since November and December are so dark in Finland, it feels like we finally get to the good part of winter and every day there is more daylight to enjoy the cold snowy days.

We picked out a few things that reflect the mood of January and would also work well in our home.  What they have in common are subdued colors, combined with black and white, lovely patterns and warm and cozy natural materials like felt and wood.
