Meg returns this week to How-Tuesday with a project fit for those nostalgic for the summer camp aesthetic. Inspired by a relaxing, wooded vacation in Maine, Meg Allan Cole, of the recently retired Threadbanger video squad, brought back some branches and an idea for a mid-century modern wall hanging piece. There’s a lot you can do with a log! Have some clever ideas for other things you can do with wood? Post them in the comments below.

Supplies you’ll need:
Tools you’ll need:
Directions:
Step One: Fasten a hanger on the back of the baseboard for your wall hanging. Be sure to center the hanger horizontally on the back of the baseboard a few inches from the top. |

Step Two: Cut up the branch(es) into roughly 1/2″ cylindrical sections. The depth of each piece can vary giving the overall piece a topographic texture. |
Step 3: Sand Down the edges until they are uniform, and the top surfaces to your preference. There will probably be some rough edges from the sawing, sanding these down will ensure that they sit flush on the baseboard. |

Step 4: Arrange the pieces in a pattern of your liking. Ideally the pieces will overlap the edge of the baseboard. |
Step 5: Glue the pieces down one at a time starting from the center. Use enough glue to ensure the wood sticks together, and hold each firmly in place for a second. if there is excess glue, use a Q-tip to clean up the edges. Allow the glue to fully dry before advancing to the next step. |

Step 6: Give the whole thing a nice sheen with spray or brush on finish. Use multiple coats if necessary. |

great theme and awesome how-to--thanks so much! i have been mulling over a design that i saw in a restaurant in Lyons, France--lovely barky branches such as these, but with the sanded stumps of the small branches left on for a knobbly, natural look. these were painted a uniform black (colors/stains would be fun to play with, or the lack thereof) and fixed to on brackets to the wall to form a wall covering that went floor to ceiling and covered an entire wall. but this idea could be as huge or as tiny as you want. anyway, i thought it was such a clever and potentially low-cost idea...

Poo. No sound! :/ Awesome project tho, done a few things similar, however if youre handy with power tools, I would suggest using a chop saw, seems like it would be much faster than sawing each piece by hand! :P And dont know if that was mentioned in the video, cuz I couldnt hear it... - @BeaumontStudio, you CAN "tile" your floors!! I did!! :) Holds up well, its been down for 2 years and surviving 4 boys and their toys, and me an my heels! :) Try it!

The sound didn't work for me, so I clicked and opened the mp4 link below the video in a different tab and then the sound worked. I don't know why. Also, yeah, this project is way beyond anything I would ever try. Me and saws don't mix, although I have used a staple gun and it's pretty thrilling.

I took slices like this, drilled a hole in the top. String with a ribbon & knot Wrote each of my kids & grand kids on them. (I was going to wood burn them, but couldn't find my wood burner) & Hung them on the artificial Christmas tree. The room... smelled great & my whole family was with me for Christmas!

awesome! I love art installations! (I'm still trying to decide what art installation to put in my new rented-apartment...) anyway, some other branch/twig related projects I've done is make buttons (pretty easy if you already have varnish and laquer, and really fun), a lamp once and a cuff-bracelet.. probably more, but I just can't remember.. :)
