It’s such a thrill to be contributing to the fabulous Etsy Blog! As a mother of five, my thoughts tend to center around my kids and their varied interests. Girl’s Room: Dreaming Softly
As much as my boys are striving to define the absolutes of science, my girls — ages 3 and 10 — are lost in the wonderful worlds of their imagination. I could easily see either of them curled up in the delightful Aran armchair reading a favorite book.

I decorated the rooms of a friend's children years ago...her son loved his "at the beach" inspired room, complete with a thatched tiki hut ceiling and board-walk for his beach chair and surf board shelves. His younger sister's room was a beautiful garden tea party. Her slanted ceiling lent itself perfectly for a shady tree painted up and over the slant...shelves attached to the tree was home to all her woodland friends. An arbor with silk flowers was attached to another wall...complete with a wooden swing. Childrens rooms can be such magical places...Your only limited by your own imagination.

That bed is amazing! I have decorated my daughters room with huge fairies on the walls (wallies), Fairy calendar pictures blown up and framed (I did it myself from my own past calendars), a beautiful canopy bed with a pink canopy, and a nice rug with floral print, and on the curtains I have pinned butterflies made from colored nylons, wire and rhinestones all over. I made a hanging lampshade with beaded fringe and dragonfly stencils, and one whole wall is a huge bookshelf that is all square cubbies.. filled with books, dolls and beautiful things. Basically the dream room I never had. I did it all when I was pregnant with her. (and working a "real" job so I had more x-tra $)

Wow what a gorgeous bed! And love the magnetism chart! I tried to fix a slim shelf on my son's bedside wall so he could display his dinosaurs. That didn't turn out well ( it was my first time using a drill you see ). I intend to put up letter stencils (from the hardware shop) to spell out his name. As for my daughter, I hand stamped her name on patterned paper and framed them up. I've also made letter garlands that say 'I LOVE YOU MORE' (available in the shop) and taped them on the wall using japanese tape. I just love typography.

Love your post, Rachel! I have a passion for unique, vintage lighting and I am a huge fan of using vintage lighting in children's rooms and nurseries. From TV lamps repurposed into night lights to distinctive pendants to dresser and desk lamps, vintage lamps have so much more character than the mix-and-match lamps/shades currently offered by national retailers and they're green. Reused/recycled/repurposed lighting and decor that is uniquely yours--what's not to love?! Again, great post! Love all of your wonderful choices.
