Where the Lovely Things Are is a daily blog devoted to the loveliest things in the worlds of art, fashion, craft and design. Mallory McInnis, the 24-year-old wrangler of loveliness behind the blog, couldn’t possibly love Etsy more… a fact made oh-so-very evident by looking through some of her past Etsy-related posts.
I love to read; I always have and I always will. I own so many books that I could quite easily construct some sort of habitat from them: a small hut? Maybe a non-icy igloo? Whenever I meet someone who doesn’t like to read, half of me understands (everyone’s different — I’d rather wash dishes than go to a football game), but the other half of me is shouting — “You’re crazy! Nothing’s better than devouring a good book!”
I hope that you love reading as much as I do, as I’ve compiled some wonderful book and reading-related picks to share with you today. Here we go…

The Fancy Lamb‘s vintage book journal is the perfect place to keep track of all those books on your must-read list, while the I Think I’m in Love tote by Rosie Music is a grand choice for lugging those must-reads home from the bookstore or library. I own the adorable I Love Reading print by Decoylab and it’s currently hanging on a wall near one of my bookshelves; I think Ali Douglass‘s Library Gal print would look completely wonderful framed beside it. The Modern Porcelain Owl Mug by Shoshona Snow Ceramics is a good vessel for a cup of coffee on one of those nights when you just have to stay up long enough to finish another chapter or two (or six). If you get too sleepy, you can always use one of Lesley Barnes‘ bookmarks to mark your place… but don’t fall asleep in your reading glasses! Slip them into one of Sarah Waterhouse‘s hand printed glasses cases to keep them safe and sound.

During the summer I go to every book sale I can find, and I usually end up filling several boxes or bags with books: the J.D. Salinger inspired tote by I Miss You Already and Lambert‘s Indigo Bag would help me carry away my purchases in style. My favorite finds at book sales are always the old and quirky vintage books; a few of them would look grand sandwiched between the brass duck bookends from Adventures in Vintage. Alla Kinda‘s bookmarks are like miniature works of art. They’re so merry! They’d be an ideal gift for a young reader… as would The Pin Pals‘ Minou Mondain paper puppet. Beau Ideal Editions‘ letter cards are great on their own, but I’d love to buy four and frame them. Can you guess what letters? I bet you can… an “R,” an “E,” an “A” and a “D.”

The Wooden Book Pendant Necklace by Lucie Ellen will add a little bit of “library chic” to any of your outfits, and at Neapolitan you’ll find vintage books with new “outfits” (covers) of their own. The Black Apple‘s Books Print illustrates a statement I totally agree with — oh, do I ever. Reading in the bath is an amazing way to spend an evening (even if your fingers do get all pruney), and Peg and Awl‘s tub caddy can only make the experience more enjoyable. Finally, we have three finds for some cozy reading time: The Candy Thief‘s Quilt Inspired Pillow, Riordan Roache‘s Cocoon Coat, and an Afghan Knit Kit by Kallerin Designs. Now… go read!

Mallory - I am also a bibliophile and have read over 100 books already this year! I substitute television for books and it's so much better. I found my imagination is much bigger than what tv shows could produce and I just love developing my own image of every story. I just finished The Other Boleyn Girl and just loved it. Mallory this post has my name written all over it. I too just love books especially the artsy way they look on the shelf. I've finally started a list of books that I want to read. Any suggestions for what I could/or should add to it? I'm extremely fortunate to work in Borders bookstore here in Australia and am LOVING it. Another question for you... have you ever come across a book bag just the perfect size for the large format novel that fits into a handbag? I'm a bit fussy about keeping my books looking perfect.

dianareulet - It depends on what you're in the mood for.. For a good love story with a twist, try Niffenegger's "A Time Traveler's Wife". For something a bit edgier, try Larsson's "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo". Victorian/Sherlock Holmesian? The Beekeeper's Apprentice by King. Used to enjoy Stephen King? Try his son, Joe Hill, "The Heart Shaped Box". Classic? Austen's "Pride and Prejudice".
