People are behind everything that happens on Etsy, and we’re making that much more apparent. Profile pages are becoming a better place for you to be yourself and connect with other Etsy members.
Now, in addition to your bio, and your name if you’ve chosen to display it, your Etsy profile will feature recent items you’ve listed in your shop, recent favorite items, recent favorite shops, and recent Treasury lists you’ve created. Favorites and feedback pages have received a fresh new design as well.
Here’s an example, from Etsy Admin Mary Andrews:
If you’re signed in, you can click your username on the upper left-hand corner of any Etsy page to get to your new public profile.
Click around, and check out the people who make Etsy the lively place it is.
Let us know what you think in this forum thread.

Lovin' this new look!! It will definitely make me want to check out people's profile pages more often (I really enjoy how our Treasuries are listed!). As PoPkO mentions above, I would also like to have my favorites as an optional feature - The page looks good with them and I love how our shop items are up top, but I'm afraid that potential customers will be lured away from my shop this way. Thanks!!

I think a lot of people will enjoy this feature, and it is aesthetically pleasing. Also really like having treasury lists on there :) I didn't wish to make my favourite items private but would rather that than have them displayed on my profile. Not sure if there's an option to keep things as they were? Would be nice if one day people could have an optional photo too, of their workspace, work-in-progress, or of themself as this site is all about the personal touch. Ta!

No, don't like this. Too much info is overwhelming on a single page, which can't be displayed anyway without scrolling down. All you need from a profile page is a brief description of the artist, possibly a photo of them.

Way too busy. And having my favorites/treasury list on there will take customers away from my shop- not that I currently have anything for sale right now anyway, but that's beside the point. Customers don't want to see what *I* like. They want to see things THEY like and if they're in MY SHOP, obviously it's MY things they like and want to see.

I'm generally very happy with any change on Etsy, and appreciate all of the hard work that goes into them; however, I'm not a huge fan of this change to our profiles. Less is more when it comes to web pages, and this is a lot of info on one profile page! On the other hand, I don't like the "Read more" aspect of the profile. I like it on the shop announcement where products need to be seen, but I don't like it on the profile. I hope we will be able to hide our treasuries and favorites if we so wish. I agree with the above poster that a profile picture and paragraph or two is really all that is needed in a public profile. Overall I'm fine with it if favorites and treasuries are optional.

Although I like the clean design, I'm unfortunately going to have to agree with the concerns mentioned above regarding the issue of privacy and favorites. Though I certainly don't mind sharing information about myself (take a look at my existing bio to see my point), I *do* mind sharing my favorites. Though of course I am concerned about advertising other competing shops, my primary issue is that... well, some things are private. If I favorite a shop because I like their pasties, that's my business, isn't it? I know that's a funny example, but it *could* be true. My point is, if I owned a brick and mortar shop, I would neither be hanging up ads for shops similar to mine, nor would I be telling my potential customers where I buy my undergarments. I hope what I've said makes sense and offends no-one, especially pastie shops! The rest of the layout is very nice, though I think it couldn't hurt to stick with one shop design for more than a few months at a time, yes?

This new design is very nice. I would like to be able to change the twelve items listed on my shop. On the whole I like the changes! Maybe if you give more space for the bio and shop section in order to stand out from favorites. I think I will agree with some of my fellow sellers above that it would be better if you could have the option to show them or not! I don't know how difficult it could be, we 're just suggesting! Another suggestion would be to have a different (possibly) section for our links (twitter, facebook, flickr, blog, etc). If you bio is bigger than two lines (which it is if you want to get people to know you) it's not practical the "read more" option! Anyway, thanks a lot for the changes & for the time you spend to listen to us! :)

Aesthetically very pleasing--but I have to add my voice to the chorus requesting being able to remove favourite shops and items. It's one thing to have it behind a link and quite another to have it right out there. Not so much because of the competition aspect, for me, but because it's a *lot* of stuff and... well, I dig minimalism :) Treasuries and such are plenty, I think.

Over all I like the appearance -- very colorful! I especially like that it displays the Treasuries I've made. I would also like to see it have the ability to display the Treasures I've been featured in -- especially if one has made it to the front page! Favorites . . . I think I would have to agree that it draws attention away from my shop and doesn't necessarily help a buyer get to know me better. I like Favorites to be a separate click or two away. And, I'd like to be able to see the whole bio all at once -- as I would also like to see the whole shop announcement without having to click to "see more". I am enjoying the new formats you come up with. One feature I would love to see is a pop-up chat box for discussing details of custom orders -- just another idea!

It looks great and is a definite improvement. I don't mind sharing my treasuries, but would prefer them as a list. I could like the new format if the favorites section was on another page. I find it distracts from the fact that really I'm trying to sell my own stuff, that's a fact. Thanks a lot for all your hard work. I like the new layout. But like other sellers above, I have to express some concerns. I don't particularly want my favorites to be private. But I think it should be optional to have them displayed in my profile page. At the end, on the profile page you get 33 thumbnails of other sellers items and only 12 thumbnails from your shop, on a page that is supposed to be about you. And of course the pictures are more attractive than the text on the left hand side. Personally, I would have preferred to have my last four feedbacks, which are more about me. And maybe it would be also a nice option to list where the seller has been featured : on the front page, in the blog, in the storque or in the etsy finds. That will really tell about the seller. I hope you'll read my comment. Best,

I will have to agree with the other users, I would not like my favorites to be displayed as images on the page. It isn't the first thing I want everyone to notice about me. People look at pictures before text. I want to be able to express who I am as an etsy member in words, not what type of bows and jewels I like. I think it's great that so much work has been put into the new layout, I just don't think it's right for everyone etsy. A good solution would be to have it as an option, so that users who want the new layout can have it. I also think it would be nice to be able to put your items listed in a particular order in your shop. Like some of the other users said, sometimes you post some of the same items at once.

Favorites and treasuries should be optional. We spend money and make so much effort to bring customers to our shops, and you make them navigated away from my page?

TheCuriousGem says:
sorry, don't like this at all. The profile page is where a seller can write about what makes them tick and really personalise their store. The new layout prevents people from seeing your full profile text on the profile page - you have to click yet another link ("Read more") to see the entire text. Surely you could move (or remove) the shop photos on the right hand side of the screen so that all the profile text can be seen across the screen and then put all the photos below the text. That way it looks less cluttered and the page actually does what it's supposed to do - show your profile!

Well, I love the new look of the profile page! For me, my profile page is extremely colorful, inviting, and festive for this time of year and I like that. I do understand other Etsians concerns about showing other's work on their profile page, but I would ask each one to have faith in your products and give this new look some time. I would not be opposed to just having a Favorites link for visitors to click if Etsians find they are losing sales. However, I will say as a NEWBY to Etsy that other Etsians have been SO helpful to me and I don't mind advertising for them by the way of a treasury or favorite on my profile page. I may be new at this, but I am not going to worry about losing customers because they see a picture of someone else's work. I make quality products and customers of "kimberleeannkreations" will return for future purchases.

ironically, this new profile page isn't that personal because it's just featuring the items from our shop and some treasuries and favourites (for those who choose to make it public). It's just using the same etsy formula and it doesn't really say or relate anything about me. To make our profile page more personal...I would like the option of adding a few "behind the scenes" photos like our studio, workshop, works in progress or a photo of ourselves at the craft market. Maybe an option of 3 or 4 photos. Other personal options: Maybe the option to list a few favourite items not our entire collection. That way we can really personalize it. Getting a little far fetched here...but adding notes or having like a mini blog entry would also make our profile page more personal.

atthestudiodoor says:
Oh, no. No, no, no. How is this supposed to be a profile of the seller if it cuts off the text to display other people's work? Sorry, Etsy, this is a fail. You should be doing everything in your power to help each seller promote themselves! The bio section (our previous profile text) should NOT be cut off & should be the most prominent part of the page. I don't have a problem with including item/shop faves as long as it's a much smaller component of the overall page & not competing with the seller's own info/items. I also like all the other suggestions that we be able to upload behind-the-scenes pictures of our studios, workshops, or items in-the-making. Etsy, I really hope you listen to the sellers who want their full text shown! Not every visitor is going to realize they need to click the "read more" link, and they shouldn't have to!

BTW, please read and comment on this Treasury turned petition by dragonhouseofyuen: http://www.etsy.com/treasury/4cc8e6830d4e8eef27a9d4cf/your-profile-page-drawn-and-quartered Then repost this link everywhere, to your blog, to facebook, all over Etsy (and via e-mails to Etsy too). Remember when Etsy changed our announcement text to be short and devoid of tabs and returns and we all spoke out and Etsy ignored us? Stand up for you store and let's MAKE Etsy pay attention. Don't let this issue fall on deaf ears.

I don't detest it, but I have to agree with the many people who have already stated their concerns...it looks pretty, but it isn't a profile, or even a 'bio' anymore. It's a mish mash of things from all over Etsy. I don't want to make my 'favourites' private, but I don't want them taking up more room on my profile page than my work does. And I have important info in my profile about copyright and the like, and I don't want people to have to click on a separate window, and then scroll down as well, to find it. I hate having to do that myself, I much prefer to read someone's profile without it being truncated and chopped up. I do like the idea of being able to upload our own pics to personalise our profiles (studio pics sound like a great idea to me) and I would also suggest being able to add our shop banners to the top...the small font 'Bio' doesn't quite cut it as a headline for me.

I see others concerns with favorites taking up space on the profile page, but what if your item was on someone elses profile page as their favorite....it might help sell your item. I think it could be a great selling tool.

I agree that including the treasuries is a nice touch, but definitely not something I would have asked for. What I have asked for in the past, and would love to see is the ability to upload a few photos, such as photos of the artist and workspace, etc. I think if people want to look at my favorites, they can look at my favorites. On my profile page, I would like to showcase the way I work and what I work with. Thanks for the hard work, I don't mean to be unappreciative. This looks WAY better than it did before. I hated the big text (with the standard font) saying "So-and-So's Profile." I would still love to have my shop banner at the top of my profile page as well, but this is a big improvement.

Do not like that the seller profile is now truncated into a cramped little box! The profile page is supposed to be where we can tell more about ourselves, and perhaps provide important information for buyers. There is no longer any room to do that. Etsy has always told us to use our profile to tell our story, to tell buyers "who we are." Now etsy has severely limited our ability to do that! It would be very nice to be able to include photos on our profile page, and to have the OPTION to include favorites if we CHOOSE to do so, but they should not be there by default. What should be there is the full profile text created by the seller! (without the need to click to read more, which no one will do)

Love it!! Looks so much better visually... I like that you can see it all on one page and get a more rounded view of the seller at first glance.

We appreciate all the well thought out comments by our fellow etsy sellers. One issue that has come up for us recently is where and how to reflect our two locations. We would like to have our New Jersey and Montana locations available for inclusion in local shops. Is this possible? Also, with regard to the new profile page, we like seeing a selection of our items in the grid, but would like the option to choose what appears there, not just have it reflect the most recently listed items. For that matter, it would be great to be able to pick and choose what we would like to be public. Thank you for all the time and effort you all put in to make etsy a dynamic website. We love being part of it! Judy and Alisa

I agree, no "favorites"......keep it simple, too. And no Treasuries, either. It's nice to be nice, but we don't want to give away the farm, our personal farm. I have found some fabulous artists who don't even have a Bio.

It seems a bit too much info to put on the main page. I also wouldn't like my favorites to be there as it may take away from them looking at my creations. I'm a bit ADD and that is why I like simpler looks...I get easily distracted!!

I agree with SteampunkDesigns, atthestudiodoor, EGVintage, and PrairieMoonJewelry 's comments above. I would also like more space to promote my work, maybe a blog, but definitely some additional "in-the-studio"or behind the scenes pics of me and my workspace. I don't mind the favorites either, I am all about promoting the other great sellers on Etsy, but I agree that it doesn't need to be one of the main attractions because it might take away from the seller's items. One more inquiry: Why is the search engine on Etsy not more sensitive? When I search my name or shop name, I get no results. Is Etsy planning on making any changes to the sensitivity of searching for a particular seller or shop without having to scroll down in the (often over-looked space of the) toolbar to select- all sellers? A more sensitive search engine would promote more sales and visits.

We appreciate all the thoughtful comments made by our fellow etsy sellers. We like the look of the most recent listings but would prefer the opportunity to reflect our choice of items. Also, is there a way to reflect more than one location? We are located in New Jersey and Montana and would like to appeal to local shoppers in both areas. Thanks for all your hard work. We love being part of etsy!

by uncostumed : DO NOT BELITTLE OUR PROFILE (Yes, the old term profile sounds much friendlier than bio) TEXT. You truncated our announcements into nothing. Please, I implore you to not do that with our profiles. Don't take away the only page we have to explain who we are by minimizing our text and littering (er, you call it cross promoting) our profiles with everything that has almost nothing to so with us as individuals. This is the only page we have to express exactly who we are on Etsy. Let it reflect us, NOT others. ----- I agree with uncostumed.

atthestudiodoor-- no. ___ I agree completely with the statement above. Our profile page should highlight OUR work. The bio is important to our customers. Cutting off our words, making it harder for people to read our bio by forcing them to click on a link that opens to a tiny hard to read box. NO! This is not helping us. I have had many customers say that they read my bio and it had an effect on their purchase. You just made it harder for me to benefit from this tool. You made it easier for people to leave my shop and move on to someone else's. I'm turning my setting to secret admirer. Please go back to displaying our full bio on the page. Put our favorites back on the favorites page, if people want to see our favorites they will click on that page.

I agree completely with atthestudiodoor. As a seller of fair trade and recycled yarns, many customers tell me that they purchase my products (which are not the cheapest out there) precisely because of the information I provide on how buying eco-friendly and socially responsible yarns helps make other people's lives better. It may be a coincidence, but my sales have dropped substantially since this change was put in place.

Like many others, I'm concerned this will take traffic away from my shop. Be sure I will never EVER invest money to promote my Etsy shop ever again. I'm willing to see what that new Etsy (more a social newtwork site than a selling venue) brings. I'm far from being against it ideologically speaking. I just expect to be losing sales. But then, it's been the case for such a long time now, I don't really care anymore. Just a thought: would it be possible to keep our favortie items private and our favorite sellers public (or vice-versa for those who would prefer)? I wouldn't mind my favorite sellers to be public, but I have to keep all my favorites private because my favorite items are very often gifts I intend to make. I wouldn't want my friends and family to see those. But at the same time, I would like to participate to that "social network" thing...

Huh? Etsy, what are you doing? If you *have* to put that stuff on our profile page, then put it down below the "bio" info. People go to the profile to find out about the artisan. Not so easy to do when the clutter of images drowns out the text and makes it fade into the background. And the "read more" link is just wrong. The profile should be shown in it's entirety on that page. Better yet, let us opt out of showing all that other stuff on OUR page. Thankyouverymuch.

I dislike this and have made all of my favorites private. Having so many links on my profile page that take buyers to other shops is counter productive to selling in my shop. The avatar and the shop name that take you nowhere seem more than just redundant and are very difficult and frustrating for buyers to navigate. Having my favorites private limits the internal etsy traffic that I have, so I am penalized for not having them visible. In addition, the profile page is supposed to feature the bio which is now cut very short and requires a pop up window to view. Totally a very bad design in my opinion.

Profile page is suppose to be about the artist.I do like some of it.I like the treasury showing BUT I think the rest should be more about the shop owner. Such as being able to upload photo's of us working in our shops/home whatever the shop owner would love to display. That or if you could just make it were we could decide weather all the other stuff was there.Give us the ability to remove or add the ones we want on the page would be nice

People are behind everything that happens on Etsy, and "we're making that much more apparent. Profile pages are becoming a better place for you to be yourself and connect with other Etsy members." UMMM EXCUSE ME, BUT HOW IS HAVING OTHER SELLERS ITEMS ON MY PROFILE PAGE MAKING IT MORE ABOUT ME??? "Now, in addition to your bio, and your name if you've chosen to display it, your Etsy profile will feature recent items you've listed in your shop, recent favorite items, recent favorite shops, and recent Treasury lists you've created. Favorites and feedback pages have received a fresh new design as well." THIS IS A VERY STUPID IDEA, ONE THAT THE MAJORITY OF SELLER AND BUYERS DISLIKE. WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO WAKE UP AND LISTEN TO US?????????????????????????
