Wow, I do remember collecting stickers, I think I had a handmade sticker book with pages made of waxed paper, wish I saved it, would have been hilarious to look at now.

Long live the 80s!!!! I love stickers and I wish so badly that I still had my sticker album from back in the day. Oh how I tresured it!

Fun! I remember my best friend had a giant sticker book and I was SO jealous, because my mom thought it was silly. When I was in high school I still loved stickers and would stick them all over the inside covers of my sketchbooks. Aaaand, I still love them. I buy bunches of them and use them for everything, but mostly I give them to little kids I know, so they can have the delight of fun stickers too.

How neat! My daughter is 9 and loves to collect stickers-I even gave her the ones from some of my own old sticker books. My 5 year collects stickers-but only the ones that come from fresh fruits and vegetables-she has a notebook full which to me means that she eats healthy! :) Thanks for this refreshing article!

I think I had that same sticker book! I LOVED stickers in the 80s. I have a big round one tacked up on my cubicle wall now.. its bright yellow, has a big grinning cat, and says "Grin and Ignore It". I never truly understood the meaning of that sticker until I became an adult.

My favorite stickers were the ones that were kinda puffy and had sparkles....sigh

Ahhhh! I totally had a sticker collection when I was little! I'm all about the Lisa Frank. Also, those holographic shiny unicorns were popular (not Lisa Frank ones). Love!

Oh man....that brings back good memories! I had pages that had "no trade" on them. Like Q-Bert, Unicorns, Smurfs and a few other favs were on those no trade pages! I still had my sticker book up until a couple years ago. The scratch-n-sniffs no longer smelled! Ha! =(

I had some of the same stickers!!! Such a sweet blast from the past. I kept my stickers on their backing, taped into a notebook........ now where IS that notebook! I found my eraser collection a while back and gave it to my boys, who didn't quite GET why I'd like to collect, arrange and play with erasers, yet not use them.....

Holy flashback, Batman. My prized sticker collection of scratch n sniff, puffy googly eyes and hologram stickers were kept in a photo album, one of the sticky paged ones with plastic protecters. Wish I still had them!

I actually had that same album!! I now have my 2.5 year old excited about collecting stickers. You can't find the traditional sticker book anymore, so i just used a scrapbook album.

Stickers!!! My elementary school obsession started with a giant Lisa Frank unicorn sticker. And I can still remember the thrill of tracking down the elusive dill pickle scratch-n-sniff I simply couldn't live without. I'm not sure I ever topped the level of acquisitiveness that I had as a sticker addict. That's probably a good thing!

OMG Did you get into my closet, I have this exact same sticker book from my childhood too, still tucked away next to my strawberry shortcake dolls. I love remembering the innocent time of getting together with my friends after school and trading stickers. OH THE JOY :)

I love this article! It made my heart skip a beat. Amazingly, I still have my sticker albums from the 1980's. The scratch and sniffs are still scented, if you can believe it. I loved the stores also where you could get stickers by the yard (like Lisa Frank, Mrs.Grossmans, Sanrio...) This is so funny--I still have my sticker collection as well and now that I am (ahem!) well into my thirties, I have started to actually stick these stickers onto things. Some glitter heart stickers have made their way onto some of my etsy packages! I recently used two small heart stickers on my cell phone to tell it apart from my husband's identical phone. 20 years later and they are still perfect! Who else had the skunk scratch & sniff sticker? We used to scratch it, sniff it and then scream like banshees! Good times!

oh NO I should NOT have clicked ont he vintage stickers search button!!!! I miss my thousands of unicorn stickers, I bet my sister did something stupid like stuck them all over her school books when i left home.

This is so great! I know this sounds silly, but I seriously didn't realize how big of a thing sticker collecting was with out generation! Does anyone remember the stickers that were sort of puffy clear plastic shapes, and filled with almost a opalescent oil? Those were my most coveted- I had 3, and one was even a unicorn....Oh, this is the best topic!

Wow! take me back...Sticker books were my absolute favorite as a child.

I thought I was the only one! I have literally thousands of stickers from when I collected them as a child (starting around 1980 or so). I LOVE to scroll through the albums (we used photo albums so you didn't have to stick them to anything)...and to go through the large box of stickers that weren't put into their rightful place yet (I was very organized, LOL, I had them divided by subjects).

Fun for us who grew up in the 80's!! Thanks for the blast from the past.

Oh my gosh! Have to comment again. Went to your flickr link-love, love, love. The color coordination of the toys and dolls is the best. Besides stickers, Sanrio, Strawberry Shortcake and Care Bears, I also collect Fisher Price toys I had in the 1980's. Also, still have my Cabbage Patch Dolls. Thanks again for such a fun interview and it is comforting to know that there are others still staying young at heart ( I am in my 30's ;) Take care, M. p.s. My nieces love playing with my 1980's toys. It is cool to see them have so much fun with non-electric or computer-based toys.

Amy has a wonderful collection! I met her through Blythe only to find out we share lots of other stuff in common! My sticker collection is OUTRAGEOUS, to the point that I've started to give them away with sales and trades! Of course I always keep at least one of each design for myself! And don't even get me started on my Blythe collection!

GREAT stickers

The first stickers I ever collected was the "Wacky Packages", and I saw my partner's childhood dresser covered with faded wacky stickers I knew we were a match. Scratch and sniff were so popular at my elementary school, we were trading them at recess, and teachers would let you choose one if you got a good grade.

I so regret selling my sticker scrapbooks at a yardsale as a young teen! Now i have so many different vintage collections going on, but i think my most precious is the one turning our home into a museum: My Big Eyed Art collection from the 60's/early 70's.

what a fun collection! I have collected scarps of paper with images I love ever since I can remember and I also have a ginormous collection of a few thousand plastic farm and wild animals in 1/32nd scale, mainly made by Britains Ltd with a few rare ones in there, and I also have smaller collections of porcelain rabbits, barbie horses and goodness knows what else .....

I definitely remember my sticker collection. I kept mine in a photo album so it was easier to get the sticker in and out when I traded. Plus the photo pages had a little sticky on them themselves for when they'd been traded too much.

Thanks for the memories. My Mum had kept my sticker albums and my Strawberry Shortcake doll collection. The stickers, and the dolls, still smell. The dolls sure don't look like that anymore! I've given mine to my daughter to play with.

I went to elementary school in the 80's and I can't tell you how many times I got in trouble for looking at my sticker collection during class. I also remember an early sticker album fiasco when I thought I could make my own album out of wax paper. Instead of being easily removable, they all stuck! It was a dark day...

Whoa, I'm pretty sure I had that last sticker book shown there. And I know I had the Strawberry Shortcake doll from the 1st picture. I wish I had taken better care of my toys. Every time I see vintage 80s stuff for kids, some long-forgotten memory of my childhood comes back.

OMG! The best part of my week was after church on Sunday, my parents would let my brother and I pick out $1 worth of stickers at the local craft store. Mrs. Grossman was my provider of choice. These are great!

I was sticker crazy, too. Living overseas as a military brat, I had the best of both worlds. American made funky scratch n' sniff, puffy, or those cool liquid-filled stickers - and neato Japanese rainbow pastel and Sanrio stickers of the late 70s/early 80s nature. I had a penpal in the US so we'd write letters and include a sticker or two each time. I kept my sticker book long after college and only recently found out my mom got rid of it when she moved. I was surprised I was so upset about a bunch of stickers in a book...but then again, those stickers represented a wonderful time in my life. =)

The 80's were the best decade ever! And collecting scratch and sniff stickers was and will always be my favorite all time hobby. I had 2 binders salvaged from when we moved at age 17, packed with stickers. I never stuck them on anything, all remain in mint conditions on original backing. About 10 years ago I started re collecting at Ebay. I have tons of extras but never seem to get time to list them. I've posted a couple of binders from my personal collection with my loose scratch and sniff stickers at Flickr (didn't get a change to take pictures of my full sheets and vintage non sniffs). Fun stickers ~ great collectible! I collect vintage star wars, thimbles, buttons, insulators, cookbooks, yarn.... too many fun things to collect!

I was a sticker collector in the late 70's when Mrs. Grossman's sticker craze hit. The stickers in my album had to follow one rule: they had to come on a roll. I'm still a fan of the teeny tiny Japanese ones--they help me keep my identical bank cards separate (business and personal and joint accounts!) yay for stickers!
