Victoria Smith, the renowned voice behind the much drool-worthy design blog, SFGirlByBay, let us into her amazing San Francisco apartment for this, the latest installment of our decor series, There’s No Place Like Here. And we visited her just in time before her move to bigger and better things! Consider this a time capsule in the legacy of Victoria’s collecting career, and help her lighten the load by checking out her new vintage shop, lepetiteflea, where she’s selling off some of her surplus treasures.
Being the generous lady that she is, Victoria will be giving away one of her prints. Enter to win one of Victoria’s prints by leaving a comment below! If there’s still any doubt after reading her beautiful blog, it’s clear from the moment you set foot in her apartment: the woman has style. Self-proclaimed bohemian and modern aesthetic enthusiast, Victoria strikes that delicate balance between the amount of things she has and the amount of space she has to work with. It’s impressive, really, because even the most skilled flea market thrifter can yield pack rat tendencies — and Victoria is anything but. She is organized, with her decorative and functional possessions well arranged and well displayed. While she admits to constantly rearranging, I noticed during my time in her apartment that her things were curated in clusters of relevancy to the things around them. Her ceramics were neatly displayed together on an old wooden cabinet. Her crafting supplies were all collectively stored in large antique jars on a shelf near her computer, and her books were ordered by color of the spine.
In addition to trendsetting thriftiness with panache, Victoria’s Etsy shop also has a corner on the Keep Calm Carry On market. She credits herself as being one of the first people remaking the posters in the U.S. after getting her hands on one and realizing that the slogan was in the public domain. The story was featured in The New York Times.

Thanks for mentioning Herb Caen-I lived in the city for 15 years-I feel nostalgic for SF regularly-I miss the smell of roasting coffee beans and fresh baked Italian bread. Taking the virtual tour of your apartment has really amped up my already intense desire to kick off my spring cleaning. I love that you repurpose your furniture and what a great eye you have to find such treasures! This video is making me so excited to get creative! Oh, and I love your bathroom! So bright and airy! For mine, I went in the direction of white wood and tile and light purplish-grey paint on the walls, a golden textured shower curtain (think vintage not vegas) and a huge collection of highly decorative golden frames and mirrors clustered on the walls.
