Celebrate OktoberfEtsy at Etsy Labs

eventsysara

Hi everyone! I’m Sara. Over the summer I joined Etsy’s Community Team to expand the types of programming we offer you at the Brooklyn Etsy Labs, our public event space at Etsy headquarters.

The Etsy Labs is a physical opportunity for connection, experimentation and inspiration. If you’re local, maybe you’ve already been to the Labs to check out a hands-on event like Craft Night or an educational conference like Hello Etsy. If not, maybe you’ve joined us via the Online Labs, where we broadcast events to a global audience. Our aim is for Etsy community members to create, learn and get inspired while connecting with us and one another.

You’ll be hearing from me over the next few months and beyond as I work to bring you more events. There will be opportunities to explore site features you may not be using, meet other Etsy sellers and shoppers, learn new skills and get your hands dirty.

First up: OktoberfEtsy: DIY Beer Making With Brooklyn Brew Shop!
If your DIY spirit trends more towards food and drink than thread and needle, this is the event for you. Craft brewing experts Erica Shea and Stephan Valand from Brooklyn Brew Shop will join us at the Etsy Labs in Brooklyn on October 19 at 6:30 p.m. ET to show us how to turn our tiny kitchens into a brewery (without making it look, feel or smell like one). They will present an overview of brewing basics, equipment and ingredients, as well as a demo from their forthcoming book, Brooklyn Brew Shop’s Beer Making Book: 52 Seasonal Recipes for Small Batchesout November 1. Learn how to brew up their Bourbon Dubbel and go from casual connoisseur to brew-it-yourself hotshot!

Register for OktoberfEtsy: Etsy Labs DIY Beer Making with Brooklyn Brew Shop in Brooklyn, NY on Eventbrite

Admission: Admission is free if you purchase any beer mug or stein (or beer-related paraphernalia) on Etsy. (Try searching in both the handmade and vintage categories.) Just make sure to bring us the receipt! Otherwise, admission is $5 at the door. You must be 21 or older to attend.

Free Stuff: The first 50 people through the door get some cool Etsy swag, and audience members can enter to win a Brooklyn Brew Shop starter kit. (Download the rules and regulations here.)

Get Your Hands Dirty: Our letterpress machine will be up and running, so feel free to hand-press a pair of coasters to take home, and our photobooth will be open for some pre-Halloween tomfoolery. A few shopping stations will allow you to check out different features of Etsy to jumpstart your holiday shopping and giving.

We hope to see you there! Use the registration link above to secure your spot, and if you can’t make it, stay tuned for information about a beer-making broadcast in our Online Labs.

In the meantime, share your favorite Oktoberfest or craft brewing accessory found on Etsy in the comments below. Ein Bier, Bitte! (One more beer, please!)

Sara is the Events Manager at Etsy, overseeing offline events that happen in our Labs spaces, as well as their online components. She has a penchant for vintage jewelry, mid-century housewares and colorful textiles, and she loves getting lost at thrift stores and flea markets (and on Etsy!) while searching for treasures.
