This weekend’s Get the Look Decor is inspired by the cheerful home of Marlous. She and her husband, cat and two rabbits live in a small town near Utrecht in The Netherlands. This home’s modern lines are the ideal backdrop for Marlous’s colorful vintage collections and handmade touches. Visit Marlous on Flickr for more photos of her bright, happy home.
What inspires you when it comes to decorating?
Home decor magazines, as well as interior and lifestyle blogs. Ideas pop up at the most unexpected moments.
Did you decide to decorate in this style, or was there an evolution to your decorating process?
There was definitely an evolution to the process. Our former homes were nice, but I couldn’t decorate them exactly the way I had in mind. When we moved into this home, everything finally fell into place. I guess I needed all those years to figure out what I liked and how I wanted to express it.
What is your favorite element of your home?
Our living room. It’s so bright and spacious. We spend most of our time eating and relaxing there. It’s also where we display our most cherished stuff — every time we look around we see the things that make us happy.
Does your home hold any strong memories?
When we bought the house, the interior was very old and outdated. We replaced the bathroom, the kitchen and all of the flooring. The reconstruction took us two months and required a lot of help from family and friends. During that time, a family member was very ill, so we had to spread our time between the project and the hospital. It was a very intense period, but how we love this house! Maybe it’s because it took so much blood, sweat and (literal) tears to make it home.
Marlous also makes adorable one of a kind felted creatures with her muse, Molly the cat, by her side. You can find her adorable felted friends in her Etsy shop, Planet Fur, which is celebrating its two year anniversary this month!
