This weekend’s Get the Look Decor is inspired by the Oulu, northern Finland home of Jutta Rikola where she lives with her husband and two dogs. The couple began renovating their 1956 home three years ago. Keeping the house’s history in mind, they have restored many of its architectural details, accenting the old charm with a mix of vintage treasures, flea market finds and handmade items and artwork. Visit Jutta on Flickr for more photos of her bright and happy home and stop by her blog Kootut Murut.
What inspires you when it comes to decorating?
Blogs, magazines, our house itself. Pretty much everything around me. It seems I can’t even go on a holiday without looking at people’s decor choices.
Where are your favorite places to shop for home items?
Definitely flea markets and thrift stores. For smaller items and art I love Etsy.
What is your favorite part about your home?
My favorites are original features of the house, like wooden floors. They give the house its character. Also, colors make me happy and give energy.
Does your home hold any strong memories?
We have lived here for less than three years, but there are already so many memories. We have started our life together, got married and transformed the house into our home. And I’m looking forward to many more, as we are expecting our first baby in December!
