This weekend’s Get the Look Decor is inspired by the Port Colborne, Ontario home of Daniel and Valeria, the couple behind the amazing vintage Etsy shop, Hindsvik. Inspired by Scandinavian and Japanese style, the pair have been renovating and redecorating their first home with carefully selected vintage finds and DIY projects.
They have thoughtfully documented their home’s transformation through gorgeous photographs and how-to projects on their design blog and on Flickr. For a video tour of their home, check out our There’s No Place Like Here short film which beautifully captures the heart and spirit behind the couple’s minimalist aesthetic.

Describe your home decorating style.
Our personal style is a mix of both vintage and modern. We love clean lines and white spaces because they really bring out other colors and textures from your furnishings and make them pop!
[Left to right, top and bottom rows: Reclaimed and upcycled coat rack by Jefficus; Vintage Wicker Basket by TrellisVintage; Mahogany and Steel Shelving Unit by MichealSparksDesign; Fat Lava Style Pottery Vase by luola; 3-piece sculptural table/stand/cubby by jeremiahgrover; David Cressey Studio Pottery Lamp by SansEpoch]
Did you decide to decorate in this style or was there an evolution to your decorating process? There was definitely a lot of evolution in our decorating process. With our home, it took a lot of renovations and editing to get our home to where it is currently. And it’s still evolving! We sometimes long for the day where everything is finished, renovated and decorated, but then again that takes away all the fun…

What is your favorite part of your home?
We both really love our bedroom. It’s calming, peaceful and minimal. It’s one of the rooms we spend the most time in and a look that we’re hoping to bring into the rest of the house.

What inspires you when it comes to decorating?
We get a lot of inspiration from modern architecture. We love the clean lines and timeless design which is what we try to strive for in our home. And of course we would be lying if we didn’t mention some of our favourite home decor blogs for inspiration such as Decor8, Sfgirlbybay, Remodelista and Poppytalk.

Where are your favorite places to shop for home items?
We really love our local vintage and antique shops but also have our online non-vintage home decor favourites such as Mjolk and Huset-Shop.

Where are the source pictures from? I can tell that one of the inspiration pictures is an Ikea item but I have no idea where the other pictures came from. Your sources should be listed not just the product that is sold on Etsy. A good journalist always lists all of their sources and this is a form of journalism. I would like to know where I can get a specific item pictured in this "get the look decor" blog post. Thank you.

Dry erase "To Do" list hanging over my head while I sleep? That's just too much self-flagellation for me. I do love the "reclaimed wood and pipe unit" It reminds me of the clothing racks I made for my shop in the early 80's. I had the shelves resting on the cross pipes rather then drilling holes through the wood. ______________________________________________________________ ________ Your mix and esthetic is very fresh but it seems over meditated. I would always rather be surprised than assured by a staging or placement of chotskies. It feels so much more comfortable and alive when some of those placements look like they were made by a hand and eye (or mistake) rather than placed with the help of a yardstick and diagram. ______________________________________________________________ ________ White backdrops, like this, can elevate items, like placing a turd on a pedestal in an art gallery. But if that's all you're doing, it is an easy exorcise that becomes boring fast. The photos of the tables in Daniel's Office make those rooms look barren and unfinished, the floors scream to me for attention, a color like blue, grey or red and I want to take sand paper to one of the doors of the white cube cabinet tucked into the niche. Maybe I am looking for a zen flaw.

beadbuddy says:
Allow me to explain what I meant about placing objects with your hand or your eye rather than a measuring tape. The placement of the ship over the couch irks me to no end. It is centered directly over the couch. The art is a little small for the couch and wall area. This wall could hold a much larger piece. So perhaps that is why is is hung higher, to give it a little more weight and in an effort to eat up some of the blank wall. If so, that was a mistake. The centered artwork placement is weak and lifeless. ______________________________________________________________ ________I took the liberty of using a potato shop program to move the art a little lower and to the left. Now, rather than trying to dominate or obliterate the white space on the wall, the art balances with the negative space. It also acts like a balance against the white and grey pillow arrangement and seems to eveb be working with the wall sconce rather than fighting it. See the image below. ______________________________________________________________ ________ www.http://img1.etsystatic.com/ifb_fullxfull.10102245.jpg

I was married in 1962 and had the exact same slat bench which we used as a coffee table. Have not seen one since we moved to FL in 78. Thanks to Junk2Funk for the memories. We furnished our first apartment with what was called Danis Modern back then, is it still the same? We still have the BR furniture, but all else is gone. BTW, the table in 1962 was only $15.00, how much did it cost today?
