Into the Great Beyond: Blissfulchick

We understand ourselves not only by what we have acquired but also by what we have given up. I found Tami‘s colorful Goodwill donations in our Into the Great Beyond Flickr pool. Add your own illustrated submissions, and your story could end up on the Etsy Blog!

Tami Cohen, a.k.a. blissfulchick, is an Allentown native who just wants to draw. Her chosen medium these days is pen and ink, but she cannot resist adding bright bursts of color to almost every project. She usually scans her illustrations into Photoshop and mashes up a highly textural background, and then prints out the result and adds MORE color with Copic markers. Sometimes she applies inks by hand (or stamp, or paper towel, or torn tissue, or bare hands) to create a textural background. Often, she’ll finish off with dashes of metallic ink for some shimmer. Every single piece she makes is a one-of-a-kind creation.

This (pictured above) is a rendering of a small pitcher that is going to find a new home at the Goodwill. I’ve collected ceramic fruit tableware for years. It all began on a day I was feeling very Depression-era, you know, starting with my discovery of a giant apple cookie jar handed down from a great-aunt. However, I’m feeling more mid-century modern these days. So tomorrow this lemon, along with several other pieces, will leave my home and life for destinations unknown. Vive le fruit!

It is rare that I want to get rid of a book, especially a well acclaimed book that I haven’t read yet. But this? Trainspotting? I just can’t get past page two, and so off to the Goodwill with it!

They don’t even offer any protection from the sun, I can’t imagine why I purchased them. So off to the Goodwill they go!

You can find more of Tami’s work in the Seller’s Items below and on her two blogs.
