Photographs are one of the most important aspects of your online presence. It can be a daunting task, but anyone can take distinctive photos, no matter the budget, camera or photography knowledge. In this workshop — led by successful Etsy seller and photographer Jessica Marquez — we’ll talk shop about different types of cameras and what’s best for you. Jessica covers camera basics to provide more control over the images you create, key elements to improve your photographs for your Etsy shop, and how to solve some common problems with inexpensive, DIY fixes. Download the worksheets and watch the videos below to jump start the creative process and get you thinking about creating the best possible images for your Etsy shop.
About Jessica: “I grew fascinated with images (especially snapshots) and pursued art and photography throughout my booklearnin’ — all the way from sunny Southern California to an MFA in Imaging Arts from Rochester Institute of Technology in upstate New York. Photography is my great love, second only to my love of craft and making. This pairing has brought me great joy in creating my handmade business Miniature Rhino, which I opened in August of 2008 on Etsy. It’s an honor to teach a photography workshop where I get to geek out on my favorite topics!”

I've been waiting for this workshop! I had gotten my pictures down to a science, and then something changed! I don't know what it is, but matter how I adjust the light settings on the camera or change the light bulbs - my pictures just don't seem as bright as they used too. I will be waiting with bated breath until May 26. Thank you so much!! xo, MJ

Very helpful, Jessica, thank you! I've already applied some of your tips and my pics are better. I'm still frustrated with aperature. I want an open aperture and shallow focus. But, it seems that no matter what I do, I get this crisp background. Should I set the shutter high, so the camera will give me an open aperature? Anyway, thank-you again!

Thanks for all the helpful information on taking photo's. I sell vintage items that come in all shapes and sizes. I find it very difficult to shoot an item that doesn't fit on my white poster boards, so I tend not to sell those big items. Maybe with some practice now I'll be able to carry larger items in my shop. Thanks again.

Just as a hopefully positive criticism. You need to have your images and words a LOT more streamlined. Yes there's good informtion here but it could have been edited down quite a bit. I could see you were nervous but maybe try and go through it all a few more times beforehand.
