Noted: Fender Guitar Factory in 1959

bio_Chappell_arch.jpgWhile Americans were obsessed with tail fins on their cars and transistor radios in their hands, Leo Fender set to creating one of the most legendary American designs, the Fender Stratocaster. The guitar of choice for musicians such as Buddy Holly, Dick Dale and Buddy Guy, the Strat captured the popular surf rock sound of the time and continued on to revolutionize popular music.

Presented by The Big Picture, this film shot by Forrest White in 1959 documents the daily life in the Fender factory, showing both men and women handcrafting each guitar. Even Leo Fender himself can be seen in the second shot. Watching the short film now, it’s wild to think that every single guitar touched by those hands during that year is now worth upwards of $25,000. So if you know your grandfather’s old Fender guitar is hiding somewhere in the attic, go on a treasure hunt and revisit the beauty of such a handmade gem.
