Stay in Touch With Team Digest Emails

neonmorgan

For as long as Etsy Teams have existed, members and leaders have been asking for communication tools. Now, anyone on a team has the option to subscribe to a daily discussion forum digest email that will deliver a summary of the team’s most recent discussion activity directly to your inbox!

The purpose of discussion digests is to allow team members to engage with one another from wherever they get email, instead of having to log in to a team’s page on Etsy to see what’s up and engage in the discussion.

This way team members who aren’t in the habit of checking the team discussion forum every day can still keep track of team happenings simply by checking their email once they opt in. Digest emails are also a foundation step towards more intelligent and flexible mass communication tools in the future.

What’s so cool about this?
Once team members subscribe to the discussion digest, posting a message to the discussion boards becomes a broadcast email to everyone on the team who has signed up for the digest. Captains and members alike can use this tool for announcements, policy changes, or to spread the word about upcoming team events.

Love it. How do I sign up?
Simply go to your team’s profile page, click the “Subscribe to email digest” link  on the left sidebar and, voilà! (You can also check out this handy instructional video we put together.) You’ll have to do this for each team individually, because each team sends out its own dedicated digest email. To manage your team digests, go to Your Account, click on Settings in the left column and then visit the Emails tab (or click here). Scroll down and you will see the “Team Digests” box. Click the checkbox next to each team for which you would like to receive a daily digest, then click Save Settings and you’re all set.

What if I’m not on an Etsy team?
What are you waiting for? Read all about Teams here and then visit the Teams homepage to browse existing teams, search for one you want to join or heck, why not create your own? Get to know more about what’s in a team by reading this blog post.

Don’t forget that these digest emails are opt-in only, so you have to sign up in order to make the magic happen! What are you waiting for? Subscribe to your team digests now and let the fun begin.

Thank you for the communication tool! This will make communicating with a team very useful. However, I do wish we had a choice for it to be sent in convo form. I have no reason to check my shop email unless I have a sale. Sales for me have been slow lately. Thank-you again for supporting the team captains and leaders. ps - I do hope leaders have the ability to send this email also. There are certain teams whose captains are missing in action. Thank-you again!

I don’t quite understand, if all the team members do not opt in, how is this feature going to be an effective tool to inform team members about policy changes or to spread the word about upcoming events ? Isn’t there a way for Etsy to empower the team leaders to send short convos to team members en masse ? I get too many emails, I don’t need another piece of email. In my opinion, it is a matter of time management. There are just so many hours in the day … to take photos, crop and fix photos, write listing titles that are seo, write descriptions, calculate domestic and international postage, participate in team discussions, keep up with changes that Etsy implements etc. Maybe for shops that have listings that are not constantly changing, but for vintage shops, every listing is different. I love Etsy for offering this wonderful venue for selling. Meanwhile, I do hope that Etsy will come up with some tools to empower team leaders.

I don't understand. How will Etsy send out daily digests of over 400 different teams whose activities are very different without some input from an active leader or captain of each team? The news and interests of a team focusing on handmade jewelry will be very different from a team that is focused on vintage items. And the things that are being discussed on a team whose members are from Minnesota will probably be quite different from a team whose members are from the UK.

    neonmorgan says:

@auntiemille ---- The tool is more about communication within your team than for Etsy to broadcast policy changes. The idea with this daily digest email is so that you get a summary of what has been discussed by your team within the last 24 hours - and we're hoping that this will help you save time while staying in the loop. We are always working on more tools to empower team leaders, though, so thanks for the feedback. Oh, and also, be sure to sign up for the weekly Teams newsletter, as that's a great way to get the latest information about team opportunities and updates. (Visit this page to sign up: https://www.etsy.com/your/account/email?action=edit_lists )

@efinegifts ---- Good question! The story is that each team has its own, dedicated digest email and you need to opt in to separately to receive each digest. Then, each one will arrive in your inbox as a separate email. Hope that makes sense, though please feel free to get in touch if you have any other questions or concerns.

I am really NOT happy with this daily email digest. It's an extremely crude communication tool if you can call it that. My team has a chat thread where we talk about our personal lives and what we get up to during the day. It's a private chat and now snippets of it are being sent to people's email address every day! We see this as an invasion of privacy. Can captains turn the digest off or make sure certain threads aren't included in the digest? Wouldn't the ability to send out newsletters to the team have been a better feature?

A great offering to keep up with everyone. However I check my mail less than I do Etsy. Also have privacy concerns. Not so much from Etsy volunteer captains, than from hidden code put into a post that could carry a virus or worm. Sorry.

    CheyneSews says:

Rubyjo - only members of a team can subscribe to a digest of discussions for that specific team. Your discussions are still only seen by the same members viewing your discussion on the team page. fringeandflourish - Team captains can view if a member has subscribed to their digest. To view this, go to the Team profile page, click members, then click "manage" on the member. On the next page, you'll see "subscribed to digest" under their name if they're signed up.
