Hello, fall crafters! This week holds all sorts of hands-on holiday events in New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. Read on for all the tidbits.
Stenciling Craft Night in Brooklyn
Brooklynites, take note, Craft Night on Monday, November 28, 2011, will be held at Powerhouse Arena, just a couple blocks from the Etsy Labs in DUMBO. Our pal and stencil king, Ed Roth, will be presiding over this special evening to celebrate the launch of his new book, Stencil 201. You might remember Ed from some super fun nights of stenciling in the past at the Etsy Labs, as well as his last book, Stencil 101.
Join us for an evening of drinks, DIY stenciling, and stenciled cookies provided by Chris Sumner of Sumner and Company. Bring a T-shirt or canvas tote to stencil. Canvas pieces and totes will be available for purchase at the event as well.
About Stencil 201:
In this entirely original collection, stencil maverick Ed Roth presents 25 brand-new stencil designs — from retro-cool typewriters, microphones, and roller skates to elegant leaves, birds, and abstract shapes. Ed also offers step-by-step directions for more than 20 wildly creative projects that take stenciling to a whole new level. With the help of creative friends such as Erica Domesek of P.S. – I Made This and embroidery queen Jenny Hart, Ed shows how to stencil on just about anything — T-shirts, leather, mirrors, food, and even hair — using a variety of techniques like stitching, etching, and more. Best of all, the stencils can be used again and again: just clean, dry, and store in the handy reclosable pocket at the back of the book!
Where: Powerhouse Arena, 37 Main Street (at Water St.) Brooklyn, New York, 11201
When: Monday, September 28 from 7-9 p.m.
RSVP on Facebook or on the Powerhouse website.

Craft Bar at Museum of Craft & Folk Art in SF
Join us for a very special winter wonderland Craft Bar.This month’s Craft Bar centers about winter gift-giving. Create a penguin with artist and needle-felter extraordinaire Jackie Huang of Woolbuddy, and then make a unique holiday card with Bay Area printmaker Rigel Stuhmiller to go with it! Perfect for a gift for that special someone, or perhaps just for yourself. $10 admission includes materials, tips and tricks. Bring your own wool roving or stationary paper and admission is only $5. Drinks kindly provided by local (and MOCFA) favorite Trumer Pils.
When: Thursday, December 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. PT at MOCFA.
Where: Museum of Craft and Folk Art at 51 Yerba Buena Lane, San Francisco, CA
Craft Night at Craft and Folk Art Museum in LA
Join us at the Craft and Folk Art Museum (CAFAM) as they transform their outdoor courtyard into a creative hub and open their galleries to curious crafters. Come socialize, craft, and enjoy refreshments under the stars while you get creative, with the help of instructor Jeannine Stein. Take your holiday gifts from frumpy to fabulous with colorful, festive gift toppers! With some simple folding and cutting, you’ll transform maps, decorative papers, and felt into funky layered flowers, firecracker embellishments, and fan toppers that can double as ornaments. Your gifts will look so great they may stay unopened! $5 admission includes materials, snacks, and drinks. RSVP suggested to rsvp@cafam.org.
When: Thursday, December 1 from 7 to 9 p.m. PT at CAFAM.
Where: The Craft and Folk Art Museum, 5814 Wilshire Blvd (at Curson), Los Angeles, CA 90048

Do they mean to say that the stencil event with Ed Roth takes place on NOVEMBER 28th? Because September 28th is long gone unless they are talking about next year... or am I just totally confused?

I wish we were in San Fran so we could attend the needle felting class, even here in nyc it's hard to find a place that teaches the art of needle felting.

Everything seems to be in the past or in New York. When there are invites to San Francisco events, I'm interested in attending. I'm pretty new to Etsy.
