As the year winds down, we wanted to take a look at a place where time is of the essence. The Sutton Clock Shop on New York’s Upper East Side has been serving its customers for over 60 years and is truly a father-son business. Perched above the streets and filled to the brim with clocks of every shape and size, it’s a place where time continues to pass, and yet, simultaneously stand still.

How did humans ever figure this stuff out? The complicated mechanisms of clock work are incredible and fascinating!

Wow how neat! I just love the independent little shops. This is truly an art form and a trade passed down from one generation to the next . I love the way the shop sits up and how you can work and look at the busy outside with all of the people coming and going. Great film!

I repaired and assembled new wind up, jeweled clocks for 16 years in an industrial environment. It can be very satisfying but repair work can also be frustrating. It takes a lot of patience. Sometimes I miss the delicate work of assembly. Changing technology has pretty much rendered the clocks I made obsolete. They were a fine well made product. Sometimes all an old clock really needs is a good cleaning, some fresh clock oil and to be balanced and leveled.

Clock repair, cobblers, tv repair shops, furniture repair are sadly rare these days. We still have one clock repair shop left in town where I still take the time to bring our older cloccks in for tune ups. Its the sound of the shop that stays with me long after I have left it. Thanks for sharing the video ; )

Quartz & batteries will never really be able to replace a "real" clock. One of my dearest friends was a third generation clockmaker (his nickname was Ticker!) and his workshop was one of the most wonderfully fascinating Aladdin's caves I've ever been inside.. the ticking & the chiming made the room feel literally alive!
