For this coming week of Craft Nights, we’ll raise a ruckus and bake tiny faux pies! Join us on Friday, November 18 for a circus of a craft event at the Museum of Art & History in Santa Cruz, which holds promises of performances, quilting, embroidery roulette, yarn bombing, and much more. On Monday, November 24 at the Etsy Labs in Brooklyn, NY, our pal Jessica from Inedible Jewelry will share her polymer clay expertise, combined with the tantalizing aroma of real allspice, as our bellies rumble for Thanksgiving time. Come craft away with us!
Radical Craft Night at Museum of Art & History in Santa Cruz, CA
Challenge your traditional notions of craft at The Museum of Art & History’s Radical Craft Night in Santa Cruz, California. Join in for a night of workshops, demonstrations, collaborations, performances, music and making at the MAH.
Local crafters will be leading all the activities from woodcut 3D canvases to large-scale collaborative collage storybooks to crafting electronics. Participate in a collaborative embroidery roulette with The Fábrica or give knitting and crocheting an urban edge with yarn bombers as they take over the MAH’s stairwell. Mix redecorating and recycling at the plastic bag remake station, in cork art landscapes or in Junk Art Scramble’s massive collaborative scrap metal fish installation. Learn new sewing skills and techniques in the Pajaro Valley Quilt Association’s mini quilting and rug making workshop. Join in and experiment or socialize and relax as you watch demonstrations in continuous strand weaving and a variety of performances.
Special guest band Corpus Callosum invites you to participate in a parade (5-5:30 p.m.), performances (5:30-6:15 p.m. and 8-9 p.m.), and mask, moth and music making workshops.
Thank you to the local Santa Cruz organizations and individual crafters that will lead all demonstrations and workshops: Corpus Callosum , The Fábrica, Junk Art Scramble, Pajaro Valley Quilt Association, Second Harvest, The Swift Stitch, The Feminist Craft Corner, Miki Yamada Foster, Becca Hiatt, Sara Homen, Lindsay Kelley, Heidi Cramer, Jim Sloane and Patti Shimokawa.
$5 admission/$3 for students.
When: Friday, November 18 from 5 to 9 p.m. PT at MAH.
Where: Museum of Art and History at 705 Front Street, Santa Cruz, CA 95060
Tiny Pie Craft Night in Brooklyn, NY
Jessica from Inedible Jewelry will be leading the featured project this evening: mini polymer clay pumpkin pies! These smell like real pie while they bake in the toaster oven, since there’s a secret ingredient in the recipe… real allspice! She’ll lead us through all the steps of making your delectable inedible treat, a project that is also featured in her book, The Polymer Clay Cookbook, available right here on Etsy. The book will also be available for sale at Craft Night. You can use your tiny pie as a pendant, charm, or anything else you dream up.
When is it and what should I bring? Join us on Monday, November 14 for hourly demos held at 4:15, 5:15, 6:15, and 7:15 p.m. Be sure to arrive prior to one of those times to get the most out of the evening. At each demo Jessica will walk us through the process. Then you’ll have time to work at your own pace and craft your pie. We encourage you to bring your own edible pie to share as well, in the spirit of Thanksgiving. Yum!
Also, if you can’t join us in person, be sure to tune into the Online Labs for a virtual demo at 3:30 p.m. ET.
Where: 55 Washington Street, Suite 712 (7th floor) Brooklyn, New York, 11201
When: Monday, November 14. Arrive prior to one of the demo times (4:15, 5:15, 6:15, and 7:15 p.m.) to get the most out of Craft Night.
RSVP here.
