The intersection of art and music has always fascinated me. Having run an independent record label for over 15 years, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting a handful of musicians whose creative palette extends well beyond writing and performing some of my favorite jams. These artists aren’t just song makers but also designers, screenprinters, woodworkers and painters. Their craft manifests in the same garages, studios, and kitchen nooks that nurture the indie entrepreneurship and DIY mentality of the Etsy community. Yes, music and Etsy go together like Simon & Garfunkel, Sonny & Cher, and Hall & Oates.
With this in mind, we are thrilled to bring 24-year-old musician and graphic designer, Chaz Bundick to Etsy. Performing under the moniker Toro Y Moi, the Columbia, South Carolina native rose to the fore of the music blogosphere in summer 2009 with hazy bedroom recordings, pulling from a wide range of influences — French house, Brian Wilson’s pop, ’80s R&B, and Stones Throw hip-hop.

Toro Y Moi will be releasing their new album on February 22, 2011, and to celebrate they’ve teamed up with Etsy to present limited-edition, hand-screened tote bags designed by Chaz himself and packaged with digital download cards of the new album. This unique collaboration will be available exclusively on Etsy. To whet your appetite, Toro Y Moi is offering a free download of their song, “New Beat.”
Catch the band on tour as they perform in cities around the world throughout 2011, and check out some of Chaz’s favorites in the Related Items below.

Time to plug in the old speakers to the dinosaur of a computer and get out of my music box (haha, music box.) Help, I can't stop listening to Elvis Costello! Please keep introducing me to new musicians...especially if they sound like Elvis Costello.

It seems like he has a shop selling tote bags, not really different than tens of thousands of other Etsy shops. Can anyone explain what makes this a 'collaboration'? The thread asking about it on the forums was closed by an admin, but nobody answered the questions.
