Hello, creative Californians! We have a great slate of creative programming at the local craft museums in your great state this month. Join in the fun on Thursday, April 5 in LA to make a case for your e-reader, and in San Francisco to get your seed bomb on.
Craft Night at Craft and Folk Art Museum in LA
Visit this month’s Craft Night in Los Angeles to make your very own Kindle keeper. Bring in your favorite old book and artist Lisa Occhipinti, author of The Repurposed Library, will show you how to transform it into an old fashioned cover for your newfangled Kindle, Nook, iPad, or other device. The book must be hardcover and about the same dimensions as your e-reader. To find out more about Lisa and her work, visit her website and Etsy shop. $7 admission includes materials, drinks, and snacks. Free admission for members of CAFAM. RSVP is suggested: rsvp@cafam.org.
When: Thursday, April 5 from 7 to 9 p.m. PT at CAFAM.
Where: The Craft and Folk Art Museum, 5814 Wilshire Blvd (at Curson), Los Angeles, CA 90048
Craft Bar at Museum of Craft & Folk Art in SF
Get your guerrilla gardening tactics ready! For this month’s Craft Bar, Oakland artist Sadie Harmon (whose work is featured in MOCFA’s current exhibition) will teach us how to build the perfect seed bomb. Learn how to extract seeds from dried flowers and make “bombs” to throw in your yard, your neighbor’s yard, or anywhere you want flowers to grow. Whether you have a green thumb or not, be prepared to get your hands dirty and support the urban agricultural revolution! $10 covers admission, tips, and tricks.
When: Thursday, April 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. PT at MOCFA.
Where: Museum of Craft and Folk Art at 51 Yerba Buena Lane, San Francisco, CA

Seed bombing is only appropriate for urban areas, please don't spread alien seeds in the countryside. Plant populations have slight differences in their DNA that can be very localised, so even planting wild flowers from a different place can have an effect on the local gene pool. Scientists as yet do not know what harm may come from spreading non-local types into the gene pool, but it could certainly irradicate the natural diversity over time. Please think before you bomb! :-)

I have to tell you I have bought your book and love the ideas in it. I actual have made the book shelf but only used 2 books instead of 3 and instead of painting the corbels I covered them with pages from another old book. I had fun making this project. Thanks for the wonderful ideas.
