Over on Etsy Weddings, we’ve been celebrating the launch of Etsy’s Registry by inviting a few of our favorite tastemakers to share the items they would choose for their own registry. Nathan Williams, founding editor of Kinfolk, selected items with a practical, functional aesthetic that coveys the beauty in simplicity and utility. He put together a beautiful post that we’re excerpting here.
Our focus at Kinfolk often leads us to look back on traditions, holidays and other memories, when good food and company were the only priorities. With those ideas in mind, I’ve put together a collection of older kitchen and home goods which are practical and functional, with a clean, minimal design to reflect the simple aesthetic of the good old days.
There are textures and colors that match a morning meal when the light is still soft and warm. I’d fill the table with white enamelware, cotton linens without patterns, thick glass bottles for milk, juice, or water and a wooden tabletop.
For the full post and all of Nathan’s picks, head on over to Etsy Weddings.

Kitchens were so nice when they were simple. I think we now have so many things to 'help' in the kitchen that it has just made everything confusing.

Timeless, form-follows-function aesthetic describes these utilitarian, trans-generational implements for simple living. So beautiful, durable and soul satisfying. We've lived this way a long time and it's good.

I just love the way the word 'kinfolk' makes me feel. Just down home simplicity at its best. Perfect article, and perfect magazine.

I agree about the word "kinfolk", Stephanie. It's right up there in my mind with the word "homeplace". There's nothing like time and history to make a home a home. Buying lovely vintage items that are evocative of another era pulls in great design and history until you have time to make your own.

Interesting picks, although I'm not sure this is really my style. Always good to see different points of view and a variety of items though. On a note about the items featured here, milk almost always seems to taste better out of a glass bottle. Not sure why...it's just one of those things. :)
