Ready to get involved in gardening, but not sure where to start? Get your hands dirty and make your own tiny terrarium and seed bombs on April 10 at the Etsy Labs; Kimberly Sevilla of Rose Red and Lavender will share her extensive expertise. All you need to bring is a small jar, and we’ll provide the supplies. Sign up and join us anytime between 5 and 8 p.m.
If you want to garden but lack access to an outdoor space, don’t fret. Britta Riley of Windowfarms makes vertical hydroponic platforms that allow you to grow up to 32 vegetable plants in a typical apartment window, year-round. Join us on April 10 to learn how they work!
Although Windowfarms are dirt free, rich soil is a key component to fresh food. Composting has become much easier in New York with compost locations at Greenmarkets throughout the city. Get compost tips from Etsy’s resident compost expert Jakob von Eichel and learn just how easy it is to escape the concrete jungle by volunteering time at the Red Hook Farms or Compost for Brooklyn.
Not all of us have green thumbs or the urge to grow our own produce, but luckily, we can support local farmers and enjoy fresh veggies and fruit all season long. Just Food will also be on hand to help you find your local CSA.
Members of Etsy Support will also be present to hear your story and answer any questions you have about Etsy. And you can enter a raffle for a living wall planter from Woolly Pocket!

Planting and Nurturing Seeds - so essential to our "human-ness". <<<<< Completely agree! This spring I am also hoping to introduce my toddler to gardening. She already knows a little about seeds because of what I do as my job, but to watch her watch them grow will be a real treat. She already loves digging in the dirt and comments on the 'babies.' A terrarium for later on will be a great project!

i live in Iowa and have almost unlimited garden space. But i can imagine what it's like living in a metro area and wanting to plant something! There's no satisfaction like raising something that you can take to the table and enjoy!

What a great way to welcome spring with all these "green" workshops and services. Plants always make a room welcoming and alive looking. Terrariums are a great way to do this.

There is little more satisfying than planting a seed and watching it germinate and grow, in my opinion. Even more enjoyable if it is a herb or vegetable that you can eat, when it is grown! Enjoy the course, everyone :)

If you're growing tomatoes, you may want to keep your egg shells and grind them up (and add them to the soil). Depending on the soil composition, the additional calcium is great for your romas!

These terrariums remind me of the ones we had as kids..we loved them! I like the variety of designs you can do with the planters & plants. I wonder if they would be pet friendly as we have a very active dog & two curious cats.

So many positive things are carried easily from one generation to another simply by observation and gradual participation, like gardening. It is always heartening to hear about efforts in large urban areas to provide a connection with nature.

I love organic gardening and instilled this love in my children when they were small by providing their own garden space - now that they are in their own homes, they each have their garden plots- the cycle continues for their children.
