Ombré and shibori and ikat, oh my! On Thursday, May 31, the Textile Arts Center visits the Etsy Labs to teach Etsy Hands-On: Natural Dye. RSVP and join us!

Isa Rodrigues from the Textile Arts Center will talk about natural dye and show participants an eco-print technique where silk is wrapped around natural items and dipped into dye baths made from onionskins, flowers and leaves.

We’ll provide the dye and silk handkerchiefs. All you need to bring is 4-6 small sticks, rocks, pieces of bark, or other natural items to use in the dye process and a plastic bag to transport your finished projects. Because of limited space in the dye baths, only the silk handkerchiefs provided will be dyed.

Dyeing for more? The Textile Arts Center offers monthlong and weekend intensive classes in both Brooklyn and Manhattan. These talented people are also in the process of transforming an empty lot near their Brooklyn studio into a unique CSA, Sewing Seeds.
