Every day, our community grows in unexpected and delightful ways. For our Fresh Shops series, sellers who have been on Etsy for a mere handful of months or are awaiting their first sale introduce themselves. Here’s a warm welcome to all our newbies!

We are Eleni Georgakila and Sandra Julve, the Berlin-based creative team behind Infected Designers.

Our clutches, totes and carryalls are made of upcycled plastic bags. For those unfamiliar with the term, upcycling is the process of converting waste or unwanted products into new materials or products of a higher quality. By using a fusing technique, we turn plastic bags into a flexible, versatile material that’s lightweight and waterproof with a distinctive texture and a nice hand feel. Our patterns are inspired by origami and geometry.

Our work is inspired by the urban environment. Industrial cities have a dark and misty ambiance, and their inhabitants have a distinctive identity. Accessories should reflect that. They need to be functional, comfortable, ready for the unexpected, and beautiful in every moment in a life. Reclaiming plastic bags as a new material and experimenting with new shapes and production methods lets us pair our beliefs and process. We strive for a balance of functionality and aesthetic appeal.

One of our mantras is that no scrap is too small. Good product design and production can always be accomplished in a better, smarter, and more socially and environmentally sustainable ways. This is what we keep working on every day.
