This weekend’s Get the Look Decor is inspired by the playful and quirky home Sarah Harvey shares with her pets, Kuma and Ronin, just outside of Kansas City, Missouri. Her split-level ranch  is overflowing with personality. Collections of designer toys and plush add pops of color and a hint of fun to every room throughout her home.

In addition to actively growing her toy collection, Sara works as an illustrator and graphic designer. You can check out her artwork at MultiplePersonality; visit her blogs, For the Love of Toys and Art Empathy, for a closer look at her toy collections and art inspirations. Visit Sara on Flickr for even more photos of her playful home.

Describe your home decorating style.
I wanted my home to represent who I am and the things that make me happy. I have always loved modern furniture and clean lines. Mid-century modern furniture and homes have always been what I gravitate towards, but I like unique, interesting, and well-made products of any kind. I tend to decorate with both vintage and new items, blending together things that I like. Rather than getting hung up on things matching, if I like it, I try and incorporate it somehow. I love color since it can help change your mood, and while I use it wherever I can, I do so sparingly since my collections are so colorful.

Did you decide to decorate in this style or was there an evolution to your decorating process?
My decorating style revolves around my collections. I didn’t want to feel like my collection was consuming me. I guess it’s the designer in me, but I have to make sure colors, patterns, and objects are arranged in a way that is pleasing to the eye. I have such a large collection that everything had to migrate throughout my home. I started organizing things by color and height, and combining toys with other objects that I collected. Decorating is fun for me, so trying to decorate with lots of “things” was a challenge that I enjoyed taking on.

Where are your favorite places to shop for home items?
I shop anywhere for home items and usually like to find antiques or older items that you wouldn’t be able to find in every store. Craigslist, antique stores and independent shops are were I search a lot for items. When I purchase furniture new, I tend to shop at Crate and Barrel, CB2, and West Elm for nice modern designs. Most of my art prints and handmade items were purchased from sellers on Etsy or independent shops.

What inspires you when it comes to decorating?
As cheesy at it sounds, everything inspires me when I’m decorating. I love color, art, patterns and texture, and I try to use that in my home in ways that represent who I am and what I love. I love to research, and I’m constantly doing that for my day job, as well as just for fun. I’m always saving photos I like for inspiration.

What is your favorite part about your home?
My dining room, because that’s where my wall of toys is located. It just makes me happy being in there, surrounded by what I love.
