This weekend’s Get the Look Decor is inspired by the 100-year-old farmhouse of Katrin Scharl.  She and her husband recently moved from Berlin to a small village about an hour outside the city where their cats, Lulu and Marlene, have a huge garden to roam free.

Describe your home decorating style.
I like simple, not overly decorated interiors. I feel that often less is more. However, I am no minimalist. I love whimsical and colorful details. If I had to put a name to my style, it would be something like modern Scandinavian country, if that makes sense.

Did you decide to decorate in this style or was there an evolution to your decorating process?
There was definitely an evolution. Still is, actually: we’ve only lived here for six months and most of the rooms are not really finished. This house is quite different to our previous homes, simply because it’s an old house full of character that I want to preserve. It’s the first home we’ve owned, and since this is supposed to be our forever house, I want to take my time and find out what really suits us and the house.

Where are your favorite places to shop for home items?
I bought a lot of vintage furniture in bad shape off eBay which I refurbished. It’s amazing what a little paint can do. I also quite like Ikea for affordable basics, and you can’t beat their sofas (washable covers!). Last but not least, most of the art in my house comes from Etsy.

What inspires you when it comes to decorating?
Design blogs, books and magazines.

What is your favorite part about your home?
My favorite part is the living room, since it’s such a cozy space with great light.

Does your home hold any strong memories?
Since we more or less just moved in, we’ve only started to build memories! Still, we both adore the house and our village — it’s been a wonderful time so far.
