Each month our Twitter profile will be re-designed by an emerging artist, and the design will be made available as a free wallpaper download for your desktop or mobile device. This month’s design comes from Ariana Couvinha of Etsy shop Couve. 

My name is Ariana Couvinha and I was born in Évora, Portugal. My father and grandfather were painters, so I spent my childhood surrounded by brushes and canvas. I moved to Lisbon to study at the Fine Arts School of Lisbon, and finished my studies in 2007. I recently spent six months in New York working at Printed Matter Inc., the world’s largest non-profit organization dedicated to publications made by artists. Since then, I’ve been a freelance illustrator — painting, drawing and illustrating digitally. I’ve also recently started making accessories, which you can find in my Etsy shop.

My last name, Couvinha, means “little cabbage” in Portuguese, so when I was searching for a name and image, I decided on Couve Illustrations. As a freelancer, I enjoy choosing my own schedule. I tend to prefer to paint and draw during the afternoon. Mornings are reserved for checking and responding to emails, orders, going to the post office and planning the rest of the day. I’m also active on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest, and I keep a blog. It’s my little place on the web where I post updates, sketches and new work..

My design for the Twitter Artist Series was inspired by cellphone and computer icons. I wanted a simple and playful design that suggested the idea of a game or an interactive platform.

Currently, I’m illustrating a children’s book and drawing custom portraits for wedding invites. So if you’re a bride, keep an eye out. I’ll be adding new material soon!
