Here at Etsy, we believe that the story behind an object is often just as fascinating as the object itself. Short Stories is our series dedicated to telling the tales behind extraordinary pieces found or created by Etsy sellers.
Today, Sarah of lachicadelosanillos shares the poetic origins of this eye-catching ring.
This is a unique and unrepeatable piece. To make it, I placed the pebbles on a sand surface. Using fine tools, I created an empty space around the stones and poured in molten metal, using a method that dates to the Bronze Age.
Since I was little, I’ve liked to collect small stones. I keep them in bags marked with the date and place where I picked them up, and sometimes I add little notes on the weather or my mood that day. Some have been lost, others appear unexpectedly in a drawer somewhere. There are times when I even pick up stones in the park while I’m walking my dog, and other times, even years, when I do not pick up anything, even though I am far away from home.
These two stones were picked up at Benicassim, on the beach of El Torreon (the tower) in April 2010. We were taking a family walk at sunset. The dogs ran playing along the shore, while we enjoyed the cool breezes. It is a pleasant memory carried in the stones of this ring.
