Etsy is excited to be partnering with The One of a Kind Show and Sale® in Chicago for their 2012 holiday show. For the fourth year in a row, we will be showcasing some of Etsy’s emerging artists at the OOAK Chicago Etsy New Artist Pavilion. This renowned holiday show runs from December 6-9 and highlights an international mix of handmade exhibitors to a crowd of around 60,000 shoppers.
Deadline for entries is July 25, 2012.
The Etsy Artist Pavilion will feature up to 30 booths for participating Etsy artists. Applicants should be relatively new businesses with less than three years of experience. Quality and craftsmanship is key.
Qualified Etsy sellers of handmade items will have the opportunity to exhibit at a discounted rate.
Some tips from past sellers in preparing for a show of this size:
“I would say that enough inventory is paramount. The year I did the Etsy Pavilion, I sold out by the morning of day three, so I was totally not prepared! As far as price points, I take a range: from the $20-35 stocking stuffers, to the $250+ garments. For my product line, there are buyers at all levels at this show. But in general, I would say that higher price point sales can be expected more than at most other shows.” — Jill of Jill2Day, who exhibited in the Etsy Pavilion during our first year with the show and graduated to a full booth for the past two years.
Recommendations for setting up a 5′x5′ footprint:
“Some of the benefits of the smaller booth sizes at the Etsy Pavilion were that buyers could browse more shops in a single location, so the energy was great — but also, Etsy staff were hard at work promoting the whole Pavilion. There are some practical limitations to consider — remember that 5′x5′ also includes you and whoever else you might have assisting you along with your belongings, but every vendor I met had unique and creative solutions and a common one was to utilize heights rather than widths in their displays.” — Brooks of Brooksbarrow, 2011 Etsy Pavilion exhibitor.
Did sales justify the cost of the booth?
“Yes! Absolutely, I made it back and a lot more. It’s not just about the money, either. I made great contacts for wholesale and met some buyers that I am now working with. It’s also about opportunities for the year to come.” — Bryan of Bentbottle, 2011 Etsy Pavilion exhibitor.
