Update 10/11/2012:  Thank you to everyone for participating in this year’s Etsy Craft Party. On Friday, August 24, 2012, makers all across the world came together in celebration of the 3rd annual Etsy Craft Party. And man, did you all put on some impressive and inspiring parties! Please note that we have retired the Craft Party 2012 landing page, which includes the Craft Party Kit referenced below. Stay tuned for details on future Craft Parties!

Update: Craft Party is a few weeks away. To help you plan your celebration, we have created an extensive downloadable Craft Party Kit, brimming with craft tutorials, printables, photo props, checklists, invitations, nametags, signage, and coupons. This resource is all yours, so download it, print it out, photocopy your favorite parts, and glean as much inspiration as you can! And, don’t forget to round up at least 25 RSVPs for your party in order to receive a free box of craft supplies from Michaels!Download the Craft Party Kit.

Craft Party is a global celebration of meeting and making. It’s a time to get to know your neighbors and exercise your creative spirit. Craft Parties take place around the world when communities come together to participate in art, craft, design and DIY in every form. Anyone can organize a Craft Party and anyone can participate — the power is literally in your hands!

This year’s theme is Wish You Were Here. We encourage you to work together on projects that reflect your hometown. Think about local and regional crafts, music, style and food; ways to pay tribute to a notable landmark or place; an activity that tells local lore through handmade means; or any creative project that has local flavor. It’s up to you to decide how you showcase the theme at your party — go wild!

How do I get started? Grab some friends, start brainstorming, look around you to get inspired, and then visit the Craft Party landing page, where you will find all the details needed to set up your event listing.

Sign up at least 25 participants by August 12th, and your party can get a free box of craft supplies. Etsy and our special sponsor, Michaels, will provide a box of craft supplies to every party with at least 25 participants. The more people who sign up for your party, the more generous the box of supplies! (Of course, we encourage you to continue garnering RSVP and participation right up till the big day, too! We set this deadline so we can get the box of supplies to the party organizers in time.)

We will also provide every event organizer with a free, downloadable Craft Party Kit containing how-to project ideas and instructions that match the theme, party decor ideas, and other tips for hosting your own party, plus a few coupons and surprises. Keep an eye out for this later in July; we’ll be updating this post with that digital kit.
