How do you cancel a sale after it has been paid for? The buyer has decided that it's not really what she wants. It had not been shipped yet. I have instituted a refund for her in PayPal. How do I remove that sale from ETSY?

bella: first, relist the item (this option disappears once the transaction is cancelled)
next, go to help > report a transaction. you'll need a transaction number. fill in the info, saying the buyer changed her mind. Etsy will refund your fees.

relist and then report the transaction - just tell them what happened. you ought to get fees credited pretty quickly.

How do I get refunds for a transaction gone awry?
If a buyer has failed to pay or backed out of a transaction, we will refund the listing and sales fees, and remove all record of the transaction. You'll just need to fill out the Transaction Report linked to in the sidebar of the main Help page. Be sure to leave feedback now, as once we remove the transaction, the option for leaving feedback is also removed. Also, re-list your item first so that you don't lose your listing descriptions, etc.

what if someone clicks on an item to purchase and never actually pays for it...Does it automatically relist?

I'm facing a no pay here, it's been 3 days now since the purchase was made, but still no payment. That's how I came upon this, I've been trying to figure out how to cancel a transaction, so thanks everyone.
I've contacted her that it's ready to go as soon as I receive payment... how long should I wait before reporting a failure to pay? I figure I'll send an email warning her first, but like 3 days? 5? a week? I don't want to seem like a jerk.

I just had to report four transactions due to a buyer who backed out after purchase. I left neutral feedback (should I have left negative?) stating that they canceled due to refusal to pay. Hopefully the person won't take the chance to slam me with negative spite feedback. If they do, can that be removed or reversed?
