| suggestion for low cost packages/shipping? :D |

Hello, gorgeous Etsy members!:D
If you have any suggestions about managing low cost packaging/shipping, please please share your information with me:D
I would love to provide "good quality but low cost packaging/shipping" for my customers, but I am still trying to figure that out, due to;
1. Increased rate of USPS-postage, delivery confirmation. 2. Costly USPS/office depot envelopes & boxes.
I can solve the delivery confirmation part by using paypal shipping(I will use it when I fix my printer:D ), but do you know any good places to purchase cheep & nice envelopes & boxes?
Also, if you buy paypal shipping, how do you scale the weight of your package? Do you get a scale somewhere? Is there any suggestion for the scale?
These are lot of silly questions(>_<), but I appreciate if you can help me:) Thank you! |

they usually sell postage scales or just get a scale that's really accurate to the oz.
they're not too uncommon you could even try to find one used. Just make sure it's accurate by weighing something you know the definite weight of. |

#1 - don't buy your envelopes and boxes from USPS/Office Depot etc... A few folks have them listed here (search Shipping AND supplies and envelopes maybe?) ... Otherwise google exactly what you are looking for and typically you'll get 10x the quantity for the same price you pay at office max/depot/staples etc....
I also buy labels off of ebay- much cheaper and much easier (and less noisy when I'm putting postage on my parcels when my little guy is sleeping at 3am...it has been a long week! :-) than paper and packing tape (and more secure!)
Get a scale. I just bought a new one from ebay- it was only slightly less than buying the one at the post office but it had some features I liked and a lifetime warranty.
By the way your stuff is fabulous! I'm going to go explore now! |

http://thebeadingtree.etsy.com sells small bubble envelopes for CHEAP!! She is awesome, and that's where I got mine:) They would be great for you hair clips and small stuff. Not sure what to do for the larger, but I would love to hear everyone else's suggestions. I got boxes from http://jewelrysupply.com, they are pretty cheap.
As for the paypal shipping, we started out just using Mom's kitchen scale, and add a couple ounces just to be sure:) Our dad just bought a postage scale for his watch selling he does, and it's pretty accurate. He got it on Amazon for about $15, it is "Escali" brand.
Hope that helps! |

I won a digital scale on ebay and paid a lot less for it than going to say "Staples"..and then I just weigh the package and go on the USPS website and figure the cost of shipping.
I use to just ship flat rate but now shipping overseas can be tricky..I use to use Global priority but now you can ship items First Class International...if it's a really heavy item...I don't know what I would do...lol. |

the boxes on jewlerysupply are for packing stuff in to put in a bubble envelope, not for shipping. Maybe that isn't what you wanted |

I bought a 5# postage scale at office max for $50 (on sale) As for boxes, I usually get them free from USPS.com. They have them in various sizes, I believe most of them come in sets of 10 but its free. You can't beat that. As for mailers, I scavenger hunt dollar stores for bubble mailers. I found one by my house that has 2/$1, its a scotch brand. When comparing the size and brand to big chain office supply stores, the dollar store won by a land slide. Hope this helps. |

I am a recycling nut, so I cut up discarded cardboard boxes from work and reuse the tissue paper that my hubby’s jacket sleeves are stuffed with at the cleaners. My only packaging expense is postal tape and actual shipping. I sell glass beads and with my homemade boxes they usually weigh in at under 5oz. |
