Original Post

Ok. I know how to "print screen" or copy and paste to word just what shows on my screen. But I have seen entire page captures illustrated on blogs before. How does one accomplish that?? (all of the information and pictures available by scrolling down) Just trying to get prepared on the off chance that someday I get on the front page again...
:)
Thanks!

Responses

I take a couple of screenshots (of the different portions of the page) and join them together in Photoshop.

Thanks Starry! Does anyone else have a secret method?

You're welcome! :)

If someone else has a quicker method, I would love to learn it. :)

eclipse says

do you want just a static image of the page or a duplicate of the actual webpage, where links are clickable and text can be highoighted and copied?

if you want the latter,
in firefox:
view the page and then in your browser toolbar click "file"
> "save page as"
>> choose a folder to save it
name the file
>>> save as type "web page, complete"

in IE it's the same except it is File > "save as"

this will not work with flash generated pages like the treasury but will work with HTML pages like a forum thread.

make sure the format you save it in is "web page complete" if you want all the images.

eclipse says

highoighted =highlighted

saving the front page will save everything except the recently listed items scroll on the bottom because that is dynamic flash.

anyway then to show the saved page on your blog or personal website you would have to upload that saved file to your own webspace (and all the images).

Thanks eclipse...but that would save it full size, yes?
A good option! But not what I saw before...Maybe they did a montage like Starry said. Wish I could remember where I saw it!!

How would you post that on a blog where your template doesn't allow for full screen format of any one element? (feel free to say "you can't you idiot!")

no, those are just partial pages. I saw an image that looked proportioned like an 8x14 or 8x17 sheet of paper, of the front page of etsy, reduced down to be visible in like a 3x5 image. (ok...those proportions probably don't match, but you get the idea!) I don't remember if the new items were captured or not...but the part I care about is the whole treasury or whole featured items display. I want to get shots of treasuries too.

I presume you are trying to get something like that: www.flickr.com/photos/starrydesigns/498584323

Maybe you can search on flickr for screenshots and then ask them how they did it. My guess is they did it the same way I did.

Or maybe some of them have huge computer screens and are able to see the whole page and take just one screenshot.

You can probably change the resolution ofyour screen so that everything is smaller and can be captured in one screenshot. To do this, go to your desktop, right click on Properties, click on Settings, and make the resolution higher. I wouldnt recommend this though, since it would make everything smaller.
