Yikes! I've got the international shipping blues

Original Post
The last two items I've shipped internationally have gone via Air Mail because prices for Global Priority (it is not called that anymore) have gone through the roof. To priority ship to Canada, a bracelet was going to cost $16.00. Air mail cost only $1.31. Go figure.
I'm not going to change my shipping prices (who would pay $16?) but, I'm amending my shop to state that I ship by Air Mail and will hope that my items arrive in their international destinations within the promised 10 days.
Have you had similar experiences? How have you dealt with it?

That is a huge differnece Rhino. I would have thought that priority went by air. I think a lot of us in distanct places are used to waiting for items to arrive. Just adds to the excitement. As long as you are up front with people, I think they will understand.

Thanks for posting this! I'm going to go international next week and I was wondering how to handle this. Now I know that I will list Airmail and let them know the wait time. I guess if they want it faster they can contact us and work something out.

Thanks for the encouragement strewth. Priority does go by air too. I think it gets on the plane quicker. :)

From Australia standard airmail is the only affordable method available to most of us. There's no tracking, insurance costs a bomb and delivery confirmation is fairly expensive and almost entirely unreliable. I know it's similar from a lot of other countries as well. We're just used to taking the risk - it's not that big a deal, I think.

Thanks everyone. I was just so used to shipping by global priority and having items arrive in 4-6 days that the slower delivery times were a disappointment to me.

I agree simonwalsh, airmail is the only affordable way to ship. I just shipped to Australia for the first time a few weeks ago, and my package got there just fine in a little over a week.
Items cannot be tracked, confirmed, or insured without going to priority without costing your first born child.
International shipping is not a huge business with me, but I offer it, and have not had a problem with packages arriving. It just takes a while.
Just don't aske me to lie on the forms.

Like Simone, I'm in Australia and we pretty much all just ship by standard airmail for the reasons she specified.

I agree with my fellow Aussies...sold my first item on the 17th June and I haven't heard from the buyer yet...It went to California and the best i could offer was that the buyer would have to sign for the package when it arrived..I suppose that's the risk when selling online.. still, I hope it gets there and she lets me know ! I am worried for my little bag !!

Yes, I cut it close on a package to Canada, but they got in time and it didn't cost a fortune.
